ASU vs. GCU RN to BSN

Trying to decide and would appreciate comments on either program.

Also, any advantage to GCU's eve cohort that meets one night/wk (4hrs) over the fully online program?

I just completed the GCU RN bsn all online program. It truly was not that difficult looking back on it although while I was in it I thought the day would never come when I would be done. You will spend allot of time writing papers. I don't feel like a learned a whole lot but I did learn the importance of practicing evidence based practice.

I completed my BSN through Western Governors University (WGU.edu). They are regionally and nationally accredited. Total cost was $6200 and it is self paced. I completed the program in just under a year. No discussion boards, no in class stuff. Just papers. Check it out

Have you considered NAU RN-BSN? Its about half the cost of ASU and the people I know who are in it say it isn't very difficult and is just a lot of paper writing.

Yup, I did contact NAU and am waiting to hear back from one of their admission counselors regarding transferring credits from my BS (from 1986!) and my ADN that I graduated with in 2011 from SCC.

Couldnt get a hospital job and wound up in school nursing, where the money is teacher salary and stinks, and I am hoping that the BSN will get me a better paying hospital job now.

Does it really matter where the BSN is from or just as long as get it? Am a bit afraid of going with the much cheaper online schools that nobody has heard of.....

Stay clear of the unheard of online schools (like Western Governors). Where you get your degree matters to employers and to your future. You will not be able to progress to a Masters from no name online schools.

I went to WGU and was admitted to three masters programs without difficulty. WGU has 50,000 students, as of last month. Not exactly little known. ;)

Western Governors is actually well known. Former Gov Jeb Bush spoke at their graduation ceremony. Both of my employers in South MS hospitals offer discounts for going through Western governors. The biggest issue with them as far as I can see is that they do not calculate GPA, because their program is competency based. Accredited programs should be acceptable to almost any employer who is required to hire only BSN prepared nurses. I have also read more than a couple of threads in here stating that people have been admitted to nurse practitioner schools after obtaining a bachelor's degree from WGU.

Just an FYI... I would also look at the NCLEX pass rate. I've heard that GCU is having issues with their pass rates and their accreditation is up for review???

1- This thread is old

2- People in the RN-BSN program have already taken NCLEX

3- They are having some issues and the state BON is involved
