ASU- Summer/Fall 2016

Published

Hey everyone! I thought this would be a great place to talk about Applications, TEAS Questions/Scores, Titers, and just getting to know each other!! Which semester are you applying for? Questions? It'll be fun! :) Introduce yourself!!!

I am applying for the fall term downtown. I'm nervous but totally excited! :)

Yeah, I know what you mean! I'm totally nervous. Ive been checking my email constantly. We've worked so hard for this!!

I applied this cycle too! This will be my second degree, so I'm hoping to get into the Summer program and finish sooner. My adviser told me it is about $2k more expensive than the traditional program, but I figure that as long as I make more than that with the months of head-start I give myself, it will be worth it!

Now, it's just the waiting that's killing me! I'd like to tell my current job they can start looking for a replacement, but I don't want to do that until I'm sure I have a spot.

Hi chembear! I'm sure you'll do great during the summer program. If I did the math right, which I might not of since I'm tired, you'd graduate around nine months earlier than the traditional program. :) Thats great how your going for another degree! I don't know if I could do that, haha. What was your other major?

We'll know soon enough...

I graduated a biochem major. Thankfully, I was missing enough of the 17 prereq's that I could improve my application GPA to a 4.0! Those have been a year in the making, and I'm still closing out the last two in April for a photo-finish.

I'm definitely looking forward to a new chapter. Does anyone here know how feasible it would be to take the lightrail downtown from Mesa? I wouldn't mind getting some reading done on the ride, I was just thinking about getting from ASU to the clinical locations.

chembear, one of my friends used to have the majority of his classes and dorm at Polytech, and he took one class at Downtown the same semester. He rode the ASU shuttle all the way from Mesa for that class, and he absolutely hated it. The shuttle advertises Wifi, but there's just simply not enough space and too many distractions to really get any substantial amount of work done while in transit. I know the shuttle is way different than the light rail, but I assume that it might be pretty similar to it int his regard. Feasible? Absolutely, but it may end up just killing a good majority of your already limited time, and it'll make getting to clinicals harder. There's a ton of people that carpool to clinicals though, so it might not be as hard as I'm imagining.

I have a 1.767 so I am a little worried, but if anything I can apply to the spring semester and use fall to improve my gpa. I hear it can be extremely competitive for non-direct students. I did hear there are some extra spots this year for mayo clinic. Not exactly sure how that works but hopefully it will give me an advantage. I read that last year the cutoff score was 1.758 but in past years it has gone as low as 1.65, so fingers crossed!

Hey Chembear,

I have never taken the light rail, but I do agree with m3owz3rs!! I take a large majority of my classes at the polytechnic campus, because I live around that area. However, my first semester of my freshman year I had all of my classes on the PHX campus. I didn't know my courses were offered at the Polytechnic campus, so that's the only reason I took them in PHX. By the time I realized it, it was too late to change my schedule to Poly.

Regarding the transit process, it would take you about 1.5 hrs to get to Phoenix from the Polytechnic campus (plus your drive to get to the Poly campus). The shuttles arrive at any campus every half hour, except weekends where it's every two hours. I'm so glad ASU has these shuttles, it's just PHX is far from me, and most people from POLY are going to Tempe, not Phoenix, haha. To do this:

*At Poly, catch the shuttle by the GREEN parking lots (there are two green lots that the shuttle will stop at).

*It will be 1 hour to the Tempe campus (when you arrive in Tempe, there is a downtown/MAROON bus next to it, get on it). It takes you to Lemon and Forest (next to Gammage). Your shuttle often arrives 10-15 min early, but not always. So you'll have to wait 10-15 min before the PHX shuttle arrives, since that one arrives on time.

*30 min to Phoenix, drops you off outside of the University Central building. Some of the shuttles will even take you to Mercado as well, and they'll have a sticker on the windshield that indicates that.

*Another thing to note is that when you go back to Tempe from PHX, sometimes the shuttle arrives in PHX 5-10 min late (because of rush hour), so you may miss the Polytechnic bus that leaves from Tempe (since you not go to tempe late). But since the Polytechnic buses get into Tempe 10-15 min earlier, you should only have to wait 15-20 minutes to catch another bus. I know this is confusing, but you'll quickly figure out everything I'm talking about once you start taking the bus (if you do). =)

I dread going to PHX for pathophysiology (not offered at Poly) because of the commute. Don't get me wrong, the buses are clean and air conditioned, but it just takes a long time to travel back and forth. On the bright side, you don't have to deal with rush hour because the drivers always seem to be able to avoid it. How, I'm not sure, but I wish I had that luck when I drive, haha.

Hey K_karenh,

I heard from some of my classmates that many people have actually lost their direct admit status for our application cycle. So, if this is actually true, it would mean there are now more spots available for non-direct students, so us! I haven't seen on any of the forums a cutoff score above 1.767. With that in mind, I think you're safe! :) Fingers crossed!

Hey everyone,

Chembear's post kinda got me thinking here. With our classes being from 7am-4pm, that's rush hour both directions. Does anyone know how carpooling would work? Or how other students are arranging it? With me having only one PHX class, i'm totally out of the loop on this. :D

I wasn't aware that people had lost their direct admit! Is it because of classes this semester (like patho, that is kicking my butt) or something else? I was beginning to lose hope because everywhere I look everyone seems to be applying with scores of 1.8 or higher, but I'm still hoping for the best.

From what I heard, people lost their spots due to the 3.5 GPA requirement each semester. I had no idea people were all applying with scores of 1.8, as that was not the impression I received from my advisor. However, the low of 1.758 last year was without the 20-30 additional Mayo Clinic spots that we now have this year. That really helps! Additionally, people often apply to multiple different nursing schools. They may choose those schools over ASU, so that helps too.

I have applied to summer as a transfer student. If I do get in I would be more than willing to carpool because I am in chandler. Good luck :)
