ASU spring '09 start bsn program

Published

Hello, I am new to allnurses.com and was wondering if anyone on here has also applied for ASU's spring start bsn program. Or if you have applied to their program before, and have been accepted or denied, and what your scores were. This is my first time applying there, and I'm trying not to get my hopes up because I know it's a very competitive program. My gpa out of the 13 pre-requisites was a 3.76 (I am taking my last 4 pre-requisites this semester) and I got a 100 on the math portion of the NET and a 73 on the reading portion of the NET. I, personally, am so glad they removed the essay portion, since I know that's what cost a lot of student from not getting into their program. But since now their essay has been removed, I have no way of guessing/estimating my chances compared to previous semesters since the point system is out of 6 now instead of 7. My total points is a 5.49 out of 6. So if you applied for asu's spring start nursing program, and don't mind also posting your scores on here or in a private message, that would be great! I have no idea what my chances are! Thanks for reading. :specs:

Ya I'm taking my last 4 pre-reqs right now at MCC and CGCC... HRC 210, 220, 230, and PSY230. I agree with MassagetoRN, HRC 240 (pathophysiology) is very interesting. The best pre-req I took. I also took PHI 103 over the summer and thought it was a bit ridiculous and thought, how does this relate to nursing?? Oh well. About half my classmates this semester have also applied for asu's spring start program. Everyone I've asked in there so far has higher overall scores than me, so I really don't know if I'll get in. They told me that they heard them say we'd hear by the end of September (3 of my classmates said this), but in the packet it says we'll hear back in October/November... hopefully it'll be end of Septemeber, the sooner the better! I was also somewhat surprised about my score in the reading portion of the net. But since a lot of people seem to score around the same on that part, it makes me feel a little better knowing I'm not the only one. Good luck to everyone, and post when you get your letters!

I just wanted to post an update. I received an email yesterday from ASU regarding one of my transcripts that was missing. She said she was reviewing applications so I think they are still checking them all over for completeness at this point. A classmate in my Pathophysiology class said he also received an email about something that was missing in his file. So anyway, I think we still have a while before we'll actually hear anything about acceptance.

I met with my advisor a couple of days ago to prepare for Fall 09 (just in case I don't get into Spring 09) and he said that they will be sending out "verifications" in the next week or so for all of us to review for accuracy. I asked when we might get our letters of acceptance and he told me around the end of Oct or first part of Nov. Uuuuugh!

Just an FYI to everyone... ASU has posted their schedule for Advancement Workshops as well as the next NET test dates. I asked my advisor if we have to take the test again and he said "Yes, every application cycle you apply, you need to take a new NET"

:twocents:Something to keep in mind is that there is a fairly small time period between when we are notified of acceptance/denial and when the next application is due. (Dec 1st)

GOOD LUCK EVERYONE!! Keep us all posted if anyone gets in!!

That is a great point. You can change the classes you use for your select GPA when you reapply right? I have one B but after this semester I will have all of my HCR classes so I'm hoping to use one of those instead of my Microbiology if I have to reapply.

As far as my advisor has previously said, yes you can change the classes used to calculate your "select" GPA as long as you still count the required number of lab courses and ENG101&102 (first major students only).

Depending on what class you received the "B", you can take a replacement course. The replacement courses are higher level courses and if you get a better grade than before they will replace it. (Don't worry, if you get the same grade or worse ASU will take the higher of the two grades)

I also found out that because I took CHM151 (and only got a "B") instead of taking CHM130, I am able to take CHM130, get an "A" and replace CHM151. I thought it was really strange that I could do that, but my advisor said that its possible since I've never attempted CHM130 before.

Ask your advisor for an updated "Replacement Course List" and as far as I know there are community college equivalents so you aren't restricted to take them at ASU.

I hope some of the info I've shared is useful for you.

Good Luck!

I just found this site!! Its good to see where everyone stands... My GPA is 3.86 and with my NET test scores my total admission score is 5.47. I cant imagine the cut off score being any higher than about 5.3ish. I think the best thing to do at this point is relax and stop thinking about it too much.

yeah..i totally flipped when I saw mine. It was lame as hell!!! Im taking HCR 240 at CGCC

Just another update even though I'm sure you are all getting the same thing. I received my "coursework information report" from ASU today. It says we have up until October 10th to make any corrections, and that our admission status letters will be mailed out October 20th. I called to schedule a workshop in case I need to try again for fall and she said that re-applicants can just come in any time and pick up an application packet. Oh my final advancement score is 5.531, wish me luck!

I'm sure you already double checked everything...

Be sure to look closely:specs: I have 3 corrections to call them about. One error even has an impact on my select GPA total. I went back and looked at a copy of the packet I sent in back in May and I have the proper info listed for all 3 sections showing the errors ~~~ I guess we all are human though, including the person who types in our information. ;)

I already picked up my packet for Fall too... never can be too careful!

Good luck

I received my letter tonight, as well!

I was under the understanding that they were going to calculate BIO and CHEM as 4 units, but it looks like they have calculated 3 units and then 1 unit. But whatever.... my advancement score is 5.467

I got my completion/verification letter from ASU a couple days ago but they miscalculated my gpa, overall advancement score, and said I was missing my transcripts (which I really wasn't)! But I called them and got it all straightened out now... so it is very important that everyone review their letter very carefully and make sure all the information is correct! So my final advancement score is 5.486 :uhoh3: Good luck to everyone!!!

Wow, I'm getting worried as I haven't got my letter yet. They did call me about month ago cause they were missing my ASU id, but it was under my maiden name. So I know they have my application, my mail service must just be terrible!
