ASU Post-Baccalaureate BSN 2017 - Welcome

Published

Hey everyone,

I am a current post-bacc student at ASU. I wanted to start a thread for all of you who are applying for the 2017 class. Last year we had amazing support from the 2015 class, so we wanted to carry on that tradition and provide you all with the same support system. Feel free to use this thread to ask questions and seek advice. Many of my classmates will be on here answering your questions as well!

Good luck to you all!

Does anyone have any info on our exact tuition and the due dates? The tuition estimator on the ASU site doesn't include the Summer semesters and doesn't let you put in the 2017-18 year yet. When I called the college, she said to use that estimator/calculator, so not getting any definite answers.

I called a bit ago, and they said to wait on the Flu shot. Keep everything else updated though.

@SunDevil2015 I was told by my advisor that proof of insurance and flu shot were not needed until we were in the program.

As for this wait... I would like to know why this is the first year they've taken this long to send out letters. I have things awaiting this decision like my insurance benefits through work. Open enrollment closes on my benefits in 2 weeks so it doesn't leave me much time to figure things out.

I hear you. My boss wants to know if I'm keeping my position or giving it up. And same with the insurance dilemma. We're looking at a month and a half to figure out our lives for the next year...

@Sundevil2015 I was going to say that our lives literally depend on these decisions

I'm wondering if it's taking so long because this is an election year?

Also, I don't know if any of you have thought about it but the school is closed this Friday for Veteran's day which will probably prolong their decision making process even more :bluecry1:

I already submitted my flu shot because I had to have one for work. Also, let us all try and find inner peace and catch up on Netflix while we have more free time! I'm sure our advisers are feeling the pressure.

To the current class--

What do you recommend for technology? Laptop or tablet? Mac or PC? Are textbooks ebooks or hard copies?

Thanks for your help!! :geek:

@asu99 I think I watched the post bacc placement workshop video again recently or I read somewhere the estimated tuition... and we're looking at about $10- $11k per semester for 3 semesters. I think.... so don't completely take my word for it. It makes sense though because that's about how much my first Bachelors cost me in 2009-11.

Thanks for starting this thread!

To the prior class - do you know if there were any scholarships given out?

I am looking at flying home for an extended vacation before we start if I get in so if I fly out the 15th of December and come back the 3rd of January will I be missing anything I should be in Phoenix for? Any meetings that took place during that time frame previously?

I can help answer a few of your questions :)!

As far as technology, I began the school year with a PC laptop (HP to be specific) and was surprised with a new Macbook after my first week. I definitely preferred my Mac because it's super fast and has a long-lasting battery. Some of the classrooms have minimal or no plugs, so make sure whatever you use can last through class time. Several of my classmates have PC's and have been pretty happy, but I think most of the class uses Mac. A few classmates went with tablets, but they had some connectivity issues when taking online exams requiring Respondus Lockdown Browser. Some textbooks were offered as ebooks and hard copies, so you can decide whatever is best for you in many cases! You can also rent textbooks from the Learning Resource Center in Mercado, or the LRC.

There are a few scholarships available through the ASU scholarship website, but they are somewhat limited. They are not all available to the PB's (sometimes they are only for traditional or RN to BSN students), and only one specific scholarship was offered exclusively to our class.

Our Junior 1 meeting was on December 3rd and we didn't have any formal meetings until classes began on January 11th. However, some new grad PB's informally met up with my class a few times in December to answer questions.

Thanks lnkeeto!

I'll answer a couple more from my experience.

You are correct, Tuition was either 10,XXX or 11,XXX for the 3 semesters. Tuition goes up every Fall, so my exact numbers probably wouldn't be the same for you guys, but it was similar to the previous year.

I got a scholarship in the Fall semester, which was super helpful. But like lnkeeto mentioned the ones for the whole school were really competitive, and the one I got was specifically for our class and only offered in the Fall.

And bsnhopeful33- We had nothing going on during that time. We had a couple things that needed to be completed like a drug test and a signature from a provider stating that you could perform the tasks of a nurse. I am pretty sure you will be find to leave during that time. Last year I was out of town for about the same period.
