ASU Post-Baccalaureate BSN 2016 - Welcome

Published

Hi All!

My name is Tarah and I'm in the ASU Post-Baccalaureate BSN program that started in 2015. I found an allnurses thread from last year that I followed while applying and getting accepted into the program. It was started by a guy named Alex and he was really great by letting us know what to expect from the program. I'm sure all of you who plan on applying to the program are right in the middle of all that crazy!

We are on our summer break for another few days. Please feel free to ask any questions you have about acceptance to the program and what it is like during the various semesters. Anything I can't answer, I will find people who can.

Good Luck Everyone,

Tarah

Hi everyone, my name is Kiersten. This feed has been so helpful in answering so many of my questions. I am applying for next year, but I was wondering if any of you were also considering U of A's MEPN (Master's of Science for Entry to the Profession of Nursing) or any other MEPN programs. If so, what made you chose ASU's accelerated Bachelor's program over the Master's Entry program? I am considering both but I am confused about the differences and what the MEPN program offers/ doesn't offer in comparison. Thank you so much!

I was considering both programs. I chose ASU for a lot of reasons. Main reason, it is faster 3 semesters compared to 4 semesters! Plus, it started earlier for me. I would have been a year behind graduating had I started the MEPN program in the Summer instead of the Post-bacc program this month! Since this is my second degree, I feel like getting my RN and moving on with my life is pretty important to me. Additionally, I want to go on to get an advanced degree, so again the added time getting my RN is not for me. Also, another thing to consider is that when you get your MEPN, you are NOT getting and MSN. I think that was the main confusion the U of A program gives. An MSN requires a lot more clinical hours and in class hours. So basically, at the end of the day you are achieving the same goal. However, I feel like ASU has a better reputation in the Valley and certainly nationally. Oh and one more thing, if you want to go on to get an advanced degree, a few schools I was looking at require you to have a BSN. Some are specific that you can't just have a masters degree. I know that you could probably get around this requirement, but I just didn't want to risk it. A BSN is well-known, an MEPN, not so much. But like I said, I was considering both, but at the end of the day, it was an easy decision. I hope that helps.

Hello 2016 post-bacc class! I am hoping to be accepted to the 2017 class, but I am a little concerned, and I would appreciate your incite. I have a 4.0, I'm confident I'll do well on the TEAS, and I'll have all non-academic requirements completed on time, but I do have a misdemeanor on my criminal record. I thought my deferred judgement prevented concerns like this, but my Fingerprint Clearance Card has a driving restriction, and an extensive background check will be completed to reveal my mistake. I am wondering how strict the committee is about a misdemeanor DUI that occurred in 2013. It was marijuana related, not alcohol, and I will 100% pass the drug test that is required. So, what does anyone think? Can I still be accepted?

First, congrats on your great GPA! As per your question, I'd call ASU and ask. I'm not sure if this will affect your acceptance, but it could affect getting your licence. You might want to do some searching on the AZ board of nursing website. Good luck

Hi guys! I just wanted to clarify, do all of you have 4.0s in your overall under graduate gpas? If so, I need not apply to this program Lol. The GPAs presented here are soooo high that it's a bit intimidating. I also would like to apply next year, but my cumulative gpa is no where near a 4.0 just wondering if i should reconsider... also how much does rent go for out there? Is be coming from California

They make admission decisions based on your select gpa which includes the pre-req classes. I did not have a perfect undergrad, but I did have a 4.0 select gpa. So just make sure your pre-reqs are great. Also, not everyone in the program had a 4.0, but you can off set that with a great Teas score.

thank you so much for responding! I was very worried at first! lol I'm still in the process of taking prerequisites i have to do very well in them since they're extremely important !

Do you have any other tips for getting in? How to prep for the TEAS?

Are you aware if the applicant pool has gotten larger? I was reading older post and someone mentioned only 65 applicants! Those are pretty good odds!

And anyone please feel free to chime in about the cost of living out there as well :)

can anyone share what their final cost for the program actually was? I know they have net price calculators but there is always "hidden fees" lol

Hi there,

I am currently in the post-bac program. Here is the breakdown for tuition (keep in mind that this is subject to change for 2017):

Spring: $11,039.00

Summer: $11,773.00

Fall: $11,358.00

I hope this helps. Good luck to all of you!

I was wondering if anyone currently in the program could tell me when the advancement application was up last year. It's still not up for 2017. The advisor told me it "should" be up this week.
