ASU Post-Baccalaureate BSN 2016 - Welcome

Published

Hi All!

My name is Tarah and I'm in the ASU Post-Baccalaureate BSN program that started in 2015. I found an allnurses thread from last year that I followed while applying and getting accepted into the program. It was started by a guy named Alex and he was really great by letting us know what to expect from the program. I'm sure all of you who plan on applying to the program are right in the middle of all that crazy!

We are on our summer break for another few days. Please feel free to ask any questions you have about acceptance to the program and what it is like during the various semesters. Anything I can't answer, I will find people who can.

Good Luck Everyone,

Tarah

Got the email, I made it!!! Ahhh I'm so excited!!!!! How about all of you :)?

I'm in as well! We need to get a facebook group started!

Congrats to everyone!!!!! So excited for you guys.

I looked back in my email and it seems like the first email I got that had the class email list was on 11/7. It had a name or two on it that did not end up in the program, but it would give you a decent start for creating a Facebook page. You could also ask for a list from administration/advisement, but I'm not sure they will give it out to you guys. There were many people in our class that had never heard of Allnurses and it would be great to try to reach out to them also.

Last year, ASU had a welcome event for the nursing program on the first Friday of December (the 5th for us and the 4th for you guys). The event is for both the traditional and post bacc programs. They sold scrubs and gave out textbook information. We have a final that day (our last day), and I'm thinking it might be the best day for the PB2015 class to meet with you guys if your event is the same day.

Congratulations again. Please also remember that several people from the 2015 class got into the program from a waitlist, so there still might be a chance to get in, even if you did not get a letter today. I'll keep an eye on the thread today and answer any questions you guys have.

Tarah

Congratulations everyone, its about time

I got placed on the alternate list for the PB, ugh.

Thanks Tarah! That is great advice about the Facebook page!

Our Junior 1 meeting is on December 3rd from 5pm-7:30pm. I don't know if I can speak for anyone else, but I'd love an opportunity to meet with those currently in the program!

Do people buy their books and scrubs used from the previous class?

Hi Maycation,

We are also on campus on December 3. We have an ATI exam at 12-3 and from 3-5. We don't really study for these exams and the test from 3-5 should not take even an hour. They are not graded exams. They are used throughout the program to gauge our readiness for the NCLEX. We can try to plan a meeting for the classes for that day since many of you will be there. I know that some people from our class were interested in selling their books. We/I were/was planning on just bringing our scrub tops to give to you guys. We certainly don't need them anymore. Our uniform was a maroon scrub top, maroon polo shirt, and black scrub pants. I think most people bought 2 scrub tops, 2 scrub bottoms, and 1 polo.

I have a survey in the works about the textbooks. I would suggest waiting to buy books. I always bought the new books and packages, but so many people in our program rented or got old editions and did fine.

I'll ask my class about meeting on December 3rd. At the very least, I will hang around and meet with you guys before/during/after the Junior 1 event.

Tarah

Hi there,

I have been following the feed but I just joined Facebook and allnurses. I got my acceptance into post bac program today!! Let me know when you create a FB group and I will be sure to join! I look forward to meeting everyone! :)

Congratulations everyone, its about time

I got placed on the alternate list for the PB, ugh.

What was your advancement score? I'm curious as to what the cutoff was. Good luck, hope you end up with a spot! Did you apply to the traditional as well? I know a few spots will open up there (mine is as of last night when I sent back my acceptance for PB!).

Hey Guys,

So my friend Elizabeth in our program has made a Facebook page for you guys. She has done a great job as our administrator so I asked her to get it started. She would like if someone would friend her on Facebook and she could then add that person as an administrator. That person could then add all additional people.

If anyone is interested in the administration role, please friend request Elizabeth. Her Facebook page is:

https://www.facebook.com/emaki3?fref=ts

Maybe send her a message that you are interested in the admin role or that you just want to be added to the group.

My Facebook page is:

https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=10054312

You guys are welcome to friend me also. I'm part of your group page so I can answer questions you guys have through that.

Tarah

I'll bring my scrubs to the event on December 3rd as well and somebody can have them

Thank you Mcgrath1!!!

Hi all,

I also got accepted into the program and was recently connected with the FB group admin. I have used FB groups in previous classes and they have proven to be a very helpful tool. The FB admin told me about this forum, and I have spent the last half hour reading though all the comments. There is so much useful information on here!! Thanks, Tarah, Melanie, and Cassie!

Regarding the comments that were left by the 2015 PB class in the survey that Tarah administered, what were some of the worst "disorganized" situations that we should prepare for? It seemed like organization issues and outdated equipment were the worst complaints, in my opinion. Has the program become more organized since you started there last spring? Also, some people mentioned that this program is more expensive than others, how have you guys financed it? Are there many scholarships opportunities out there for students in this program? I have been looking into applying for the Nurse Corps scholarship, have any of you applied for it or know anyone who has?

And on the topic of the Junior 1 Meeting, what do you guys suggest for books? Do most professors allow you to use older editions, or do they expect you to buy the new ones? How expensive can they be when new? How about used? Also, are the scrubs that we are told to buy official? Do they have special ASU embroidery, or are they simple maroon tops? I ask this because I have seen very cheap scrubs in thrift shops that are in good condition.

Thank you!!
