ASU Post Bacc - 2021

Published

Hi Everyone!

I've created this chain for anyone applying to the ASU Post Bacc BSN program for the 2021 cycle.

A little about me: I've completed all the prereqs and just took the TEAS last month (scoring a 93.3% so if you have any questions/are about to take the TEAS soon please let me know!) I'm 28, originally from CA but now living in AZ, and even though nursing will be a 2nd career it's been a dream job of mine since I was 18. Looking forward to meeting you all!

I just got a seat???

First of all, congrats to all those that were accepted! I'm planning on applying to the 2022 cohort so I've been lurking looking for more information and this thread was very helpful. I moved from Tucson to North Carolina earlier this year to start a new job after separating from the military. Of course if accepted into the program, I'd be quitting my job and moving my family back to Arizona. Does anyone know of any out-of-state applicants that were accepted into the program? How many things had to be accomplished in person prior to the program starting in January? I'm just trying to plan out, if accepted, how much time I'd have between being notified and having to physically be in Phoenix.

There were several out of state students actually. We got our acceptance emails early November and classes start Jan 13 for us. So you have a couple months. I’m not sure what additional tasks they have to complete though.

Okay, good to know. Thank you!

I have one more question - can anyone from the 2020 or previous cohorts post a class schedule? I'm still trying to decide if this program will be do-able for me and that would be VERY helpful.

I am from the 2020 cohort. The schedule varies upon semester. In order of time demand from most to least is Summer, Spring, Fall.  It is doable.  Some of my classmates were single parents, kids ranged from aged 1 to adults, working single parents (one has 2-boys under school-aged and she worked).
Due to COVID, our schedules went from all on-campus to ASUsync (your choice if you want to go to lectures on campus or login via Zoom), with 1-day/week mandatory on campus (lab day).
All classes are on weekdays, some sections might have one weekend day for a clinical. I know this seems vague, but the schedule changes for each cohort and with COVID the flexibility for attending class has changed even more.

Thank you for the info! I have two young kiddos myself so that's reassuring.

The beauty of the PBCNP is that it has a very diverse crowd from new college graduates to people in their 60s.  Married, single, parents, non-parents.  The situation for each of us was different and that is a big part of what bonded us.  Accepting each others situation & being each others biggest cheerleaders.

One of my classmates said to me something her aunt had told her and it still resonates now : "The friends you make in nursing school are your friends for life."

I have had the unfortunate experience of being in both the post-bacc & traditional program.  My post-bacc classmates are still my closest, most supportive, and most amazing people I know.  The traditional are great kids & will be amazing nurses, but the rigors and stress of the post-bacc will bond you for life.  You can do the program and will be great if you choose to proceed forward.

Thank you so much for the words of encouragement! Also, just noticed the schedules you posted and that makes me feel so much better. For some reason I was thinking that each class would only be like 2-3 weeks long. Looking forward to hopefully getting accepted for 2022, making lifelong friends and one day being able to call myself a graduate of this program. Thank you again!
