a coworker has family in the socal area, and has been frantic this week because of the fires. her mom lives in a complex that ranges from independent living to ltc-style. the complex has been isolated from rescuers, residents unable to be evacuated. many on o2. coworker and her family have been calling everyday to check on mom, and the staff kept saying "i just checked on her, she's fine. they've been delivering portable o2 tanks to residents and generators. she's fine."
today they found out that mom has been in a hospital since monday with a sacral fx............

The family should have been made aware that she was in the hospital with a fx (which is a state reportable by the way). I'd be taking names and calling the state.

I used to work at an assisted living facility, a couple different ones actually. Alot of times they are nice and look pretty and the care givers may have more time, but there is not enough supervision in most of them. A nurse from 8-5, M-F, with unliscensed personnel running the floor otherwise is a recipe for disaster.
