in third year we had to do a paper for our philospphy class on a few different topics. The topic I picked had both legal and ethical implications in the hospital setting. It was on the subject of 'futility' and whose decision, the healthcare team or the family, is it to make the decision to treat with no beneficial outcome. Areas to look at legal (does the healthcare team have to discuss possible treatment options with the family/patient, and who decides what is futile?) This is quite easy to research in journals, especially with premature babes and terminal illnesses, ie. witholding/withdrawing treatment.
good luck.
Might get some ideas from ANA's The Center for Ethics and Human Rights:
Well, all nursing schools must follow similar studies. I am in my last semester and we are to do a research paper on legal/ethical problems. Some that were discussed in our class are:
Euthanasia
Families overruling Living Will
Nursing strikes-Crossing the picket line
Nursing strikes-pt abandonment?
Drug diversion-what to do if you suspect a colleague?
Good luck to you!!!!!!

Hi all. School research paper time again(oh how i missed it over break). I have a paper and power point to do.I can pick any topic that has legal or ethical ramifications in health field.I want to do somthing different and am having trouble coming up with original stuff. There are several in my class that have chosen;stem cell, increased pt loading, mandatory overtime. I know that these are important, but I want somthing that will teach not only my class but myself a new situation. Any suggestions? I have a month to do this paper and want to start very soon. Thanks for any input.
