I Dream of Nursing
16 Posts
I need some words of encouragment. Im 20 years old and dropped the Nursing program at QCC when i was 18 because it was too hard, and too much work. They had a Saturday class from 9 in the morning till 3 in the afternoon ( Anatomy and Physiology). The class itself had like 9 pages of notes a day, that amongst all my other classes I would have to memorize before the following Saturday. Anyway I ended up blowing it.
Took the Medical Office Asst. thing and now I regret it so much. I want to go back to Nursing, but its too damn hard. Is the Excelisior thing you guys were talking about gona make it easy for ppl like me, or should I just go back to school and start from scratch.

Hi Shelly,
If you really want it, you will go back and try that Anat & Phys again. Part of the problem might have been the one day a week scheduling. I couldn't learn it that way. I took it 2 days a week of lecture, 2 days a week of lab, and it goes down a whole lot easier than 1 big bite. It keeps you focused--4 days a week you are getting "reminders" of where you are and where you need to be as far as learning, memorizing, studying, etc. It may not be as easy to find a job to accomodate that schedule, but it's worth trying. Try taking Anat & Phys I with no other sciences, or maybe along with a class you find easier, such as an English class or whatever.
You might be still "growing" as a student--sharpening your test taking skills, studying habits, learning to balance school/work, etc. I think everyone goes through this at some point in their life--with most people it's their first semester or first year of college.
I'm starting nursing school in the fall, and am trying to find the right balance between respect/fear of the classes, and keeping my hopes up that I can make it if I work hard. Good luck to you and keep us posted on your progress...

Nursing school is hard. NURSING is hard. No matter how you get your education you will be doing a difficult job every day you work.
Thank you so much Nikki
I never thought about it that way, nor have I had anyone give me that kind of encouragment-- If your this nice in person you should have no problem over coming your fears about class in the Fall. I really appreciate your post.
Thanks again

:angryfire :angryfire :angryfire Nursing school will be the hardest thing you do (if you do it). Don't do the excelsior. You get cheated out of hundreds of clinical hours that you need to learn how to be a nurse. That's more for people already in the field (LPNs, EMTs, etc.) You have to make school your priority. I know what you went through, I did A&P at QCC, at the age of 18. I made it through, and was not an A student. Take your time, go part time if you can.
