Hi everyone. i am about to make a bold move and ask the director of the biology department that i need a change of grade for my anatomy course. i also have to ask my professor if he would allow me as well. i am pretty sure i am getting an F. i posted another thread about this situation. I am very upset and i need advice. i want to convinve my professor to allow me to retake his final. i have no excuse but that it was difficult when i took the class to grasp all that information. I dont know how to convince him and i will do anything so i can get that big fat F turned away. should i do this? i wont see him until next semester should i email him? should i speak with the director first? if you have any helpful advice i would really appreciate it. Thank you
Hmmm ever one here makes sense. I appreciate the ones that commented to ask my professor for a re take final because I have nothing to loose except the same grade and repeating the class. Now for those who disagree I can see where you are coming from I could just imagine what you would say if someone flunked out of nursing school and wanted advice on re admission. Well currently I am signed up for anatomy next semester. I just don't want that F in my transcript. I do not know how to make up for it. Common this can't be it. I should not give up now because of that grade... right??? Does it mean all nursing schools will frown upon this:( I know I can just call it quits but I don't want to stop trying I made a mistake and I hope I can make up for it.
We had a few people flunk out of nursing school and I would whole heartedly tell one of them to apply again. She had a horrible thing happen during the 3rd week of class (for her privacy, I won't go into it) and struggled through class and clinicals until the end of the term. She worked her tail off but has so many distractions that her grades on tests plunged. Although all of the instructors knew about her extenuating circumstances, they still have standards to maintain. I hope you do the class again and find a way to maintain A's. An F just means you need to look at what went wrong and make improvements.
BTW momtojosh I just wanted to say that I have a friend that took the nclex last month and passed. Got her RN license and she is 54 years old. She has a strong a attitude very motivated and she walked out with her associates degree. She said her son motivated her and he paid for her education. She wanted to be a nurse since she was teen but life happened. She is very proud so don't say you are to old because it is never to late to try...:)
I just finished my last pre-reg: A&P2, earning my first C in almost 30 years (all A's and B's since) and it has knocked me out of the running for nursing school. (In my community college district, you are not allowed to retake a course you've earned a C in, but you can appeal.) I thought of appealing to my teacher, especially since I earned B's in A&P1 & Organic Chem, but she already knew how important a B was, so I didn't know what else I'd say -- especially after hearing her say to other classmates "Repeating this class just means you'll know the material that much better the 2nd time..."
So... now, at almost 50, I'm exploring other health care career options -- but I'm finding my already-completed pre-req's are WAY more than most of the tech programs require.
Oh, well... there must be a reason...

Where do you live. I hate to see you give up on nursing.. I finished A&P 1 with a C+, and I will ge retaking A&P II because I got a C-. Thank God my school lets you retake classes up to 3 times and they take the best grade and use that towards your GPA for nursing school. If you are more interested to know where I go, look at my other posts as there is one in which I go into great detail about the college I attend and the selection process for nursing schoo.. Good Luck.

I would love to know which school you attend. I made a C in both AP 1 & 2 and know my chances for the RN program are very slim which is why I'm considering the LVN route then bridging. I have a passion to be a nurse that runs so deep that I couldn't possibly give up on my dream anytime soon.

I attend the College of Southern Nevada in Las Vegas. Here is the posting to which I responded to in great detail about this school. If you go to page 3 of this post you will find my response and everything about the college. Good Luck.

Thanks, Butteryfly. I'm pretty much tethered to my current location with 6 kids still at home (Northern CA.) If that wasn't the case, I'd be open to the idea of moving to a more "nursing school friendly" location.
No worries, though -- as I said: there must be a reason. I'm just praying for the wisdom to figure out what that is... and what to do next.
Good luck walomom, don't give up the dream. I am 41 and waited until my 2 kids were grow. Just do the best you can, never say never even even if that means puting of your nursing career for several years. If nursing is in your blood, as it is with me, the yearning for becoming a nurse will not go away. God bless:redpinkhe

If I was a student and I found out you got to retake the final to pass after you had the same time I did to study, I would be ******!!!
