Army Nurse Corps FY2013

Published

Hey everybody, I'm starting a thread here for those applying to the Army Nurse Corps in FY2013. I figure this might be a good place to get to know other future nurse corps officers and a place for the veterans of the ANC to pass on some advice.

Share your story and hopefully we will meet down in San Antonio this Winter/spring of 2013

Ill start with my story,

I am a 28 y/o critical care nurse with 2 years experience in a level 2 trauma center in Virignia. I passed MEPS at Ft. Eustis and have submitted security packet, letters of reference and letter of intent.

I am applying to the October review board for Active Duty Army Nurse Corps for the 66H8A(critical care) and 66T(trauma) programs( I am not sure if they are still running this one, but you don't get what you don't ask for).

I am happily married with a baby on the way, my wife is 100% behind a move the Army and I feel blessed to have her love and support.

The road to the Army has been a long one with a degree in Biology, stint as a drug rep and return for an accelerated BSN.

I love being a nurse and love working in critical care. I hope to serve my country in uniform treating service members & their families at home and in forward deployed units.

I want to be an critical care nurse and officer in the U.S. Army and I hope that I will get to meet all of you in uniform at BOLC, at MEDDAC, CSH or FST in CONUS or OCONUS.

Here's to all us achieving our dreams of becoming Army Nurses!

HOOOOOOAH!

Hello everyone,

My husband and I have been following his blog for sometime and appreciate all the information. My husband was also selected for Active Duty (can't remember his identifier but he is will be a general nurse to start) in the November board. He also got the option for the critical care course in his contract. He has already "commissioned" and signed his LOI.

As far as where we are in the process, I would suggest that you all call the branch manager LTC Hartman. My husband call last Friday and he was told he needed to speak with LTC Weisgram and he would contact him this week. He received call yesterday from LTC Hartman yesterday stating he is scheduled to report to BOLC on the 23rd of January (this is our first contact from the Army since his selection). We are not able to make his date and are hoping for the March BOLC as we both need to put in official resignations from our jobs, move myself and our two boys. He said LTC Hartman was very nice and willing to work with him. Another down side is our choices for duty station are not available. My husband is going to try to reach LTC Weisgram today and hopefully we can get his BOLC date changed. Best wishes to you all.

By any chance, is anyone newly selected here a reservist?

So does anyone here have the contact information for the Branch managers? Like email and phone.

Good afternoon, Congrats on your husbands selection. He would have gone to school with my wife and gone to Fort Bragg afterwords. There is one more person who is supposed to go with them but have not seen anything on here regarding that person. Ensuring you are both prepared is extemely important, but depending on your career field as soon as you find out where he is going call their CPAC office and they can get you into the civilian GS system. Great route as you can transfer jobs as your husband moves along in his Military career and comes with 25 year retirement. Just something to look into and because you are a military spouse you get preference. Good luck and congrats on this big step for your family.

Lunah, it is so ironic that you mentioned just falling back. Last night at the gym my husband said the same thing. I never realized that I was doing that, and it really made a difference. I have greatly improved my run and push-ups, but my sit-ups have been struggling. Hopefully, now that I know this, I will start improving on them as well.

Thanks for the website!!!

Your preperation is most important. I am an MFT and just as a reccomendation try differentiating your workouts and include V-Ups, Supine Bicycles and also do 4 for the core before every upper body core workout. If you would like additional information email me @ [email protected] and I will assist. Good Luck.

Let's get a roll call. Everyone that still checks here, that has taken part in this thread, just type out a few lines of where you are in the process, any school dates, OML list# that kind of thing. Maybe it will help everyone heading to BOLC know who to look for. My Wife is selected LoI signed, contract signed but still waiting on the contact from the branch manager, and any school dates. As far as I know her security clearance hasn't post yet either.

Hi, I signed my letter of intent just before Christmas, and have not heard anything since then. I am still waiting on the security clearance and background check. I am hoping to be going to BOLC in August, as I don't finish my BSN until May. So for me, there is nothing to do but wait, hope for the best, and do push ups and situps instead of hanging out on this site.

My Scroll came through today on my packet, it was approved on the 20th of Dec, so I am not sure why it took so long to show up... I believe I am #3 on the OML and I should be coming off soon hopefully. My recruiter said we ware just waiting on an official memo to be released with the names of those pulled off the USAGPAN OML. I have my letter of intent printed and ready to go all it needs is a signature and a date.

That is great news vtrobinson. I emailed LTC Weisgram yesterday but he hasn't replied yet and I'm not sure if he will until Thursday when they are supposed to have the list NLT this day (although we know how that works.) My recruiter hasn't said anything to me so I'm assuming he hasn't heard anything about me being picked up. Although I'm not sure if this is something that he is supposed to be looking into regularly or not?? Anyway, congratulations and hopefully I will also get good news and will be seeing you in BOLC in March.

Irishliz- Thank you for the update as I obviously wasn't aware. The last time I talked to Weisgram he told me Jan 10 so maybe those extra 5 days will give those of us wanting slots a better chance. Again, thanks for the update.

No problem. I hate having to wait any longer and experience more ups and downs over this, but like you said maybe its a good thing :)

I didn't get scrolled until the first week of January when I was selected, and I still made the March BOLC. It's definitely possible!

This is reassuring, but it is the end of the first week and I still haven't heard anything...cry! I don't mean to be a complainer, but I had no idea it would be 2 months from the board and still not able to commission!
