Hi, I have been working on a med-surg floor for the past 6 years, and have just found out that I will be getting my long-asked-for transfer to the psych floor. Unfortunately, I am woefully unprepared. Aside from dusting off my old textbooks, are there any suggestions for the most helpful ways to prepare for this job? Any texts or online resources that would be most helpful? Thank you!

Hi, I signed my letter of intent just before Christmas, and have not heard anything since then. I am still waiting on the security clearance and background check. I am hoping to be going to BOLC in August, as I don't finish my BSN until May. So for me, there is nothing to do but wait, hope for the best, and do push ups and situps instead of hanging out on this site.

Does anyone know what happens next?

I got the news yesterday when I was Christmas shopping at Toys R' Us. I dropped the toys that were in my hands, and had to suppress the scream of joy. I was accepted as a 2LT, but as I am still a student, it will take some time before I get to Fort Sam. Congratulations to all who were selected, and I hope to meet some of you very soon. Now I need to do some serious PT, and refresh my land nav.

I have been following this post for a few months now, and like the rest of you, I am waiting not-so-patiently for a phone call telling me the news. I am a prior enlisted and have been nursing for about 5 years now. Unfortunately, I will not recieve constructive credit for my experience, as I have been working and living in Canada, and while I have the education and work equivalincy of an associate degree RN, the Army doesn't recognize it at all. But I will graduate with my BScN in May, and hope to go to Fort Sam Houston soon after that. I don't mind that I will enter as a 2nd LT, and I don't mind that with my wife quitting her job, and me quitting mine, we will be taking a $100 000 pay cut in the first year. I want to serve again, and I have seen enough of the civilian side of nursing to know that I need something different. I know that the past few days have been really tense for me and everyone else who is waiting for news. As of yesterday the news that I got from my recruiter is this: "I just called brigade, the board for the nurses under 2 years of experience is still pending." It isn't much to go on, but at least we know that we haven't been passed over yet. I really hope that this board can return to a place of mutual support and information sharing, and that we can avoid the abberations of yesterday. There will be more stress and frustration in our futures, both for those selected, and those who are not. We need to continue to be supportive of each other, and not turn on each other when the going gets tough. I am in my second year of nursing school, and out of 75 students, I am one of 3 males. Last semester there were a couple more males, but they didnt make the cut. I will say that every male had a group of females that hovered over him. It was a lot of fun, but I had no inclination to date one of the ladies, for fear of the negative reputation that might arise should the relationship go south. However, the new year has started, and I am starting a new policy with classmates. There are just far too many of them hitting on me constantly for me to ignore them any longer, and now I have started dating one. My only concern was that I didnt date a girl that I had lab and clinical with. I dont know where it will go from here, but I am willing to take the chance that when it ends, it will end ok, and not result in 73 women hating me.
