To all the Army nurses out there,
Can Nurse Corps officers go to airborne school? If they can... how difficult is it for a nurse to get a spot? Is it possible to go directly after OBLC?
Thanks all

There are a some special teams that might do this... but the 99% answer is no.

Get assigned to an FST and you will go to jump school. I'd be there but there isnt a unit close to me.

My advice: Do whatever it takes to get to that school.....if you need to beg, plead, or get compromising photos of your chain of command with a goat, do whatever it takes to go to that school (and air assault if you can)....at bragg, home of the Imperial 82nd Airborne Division and 18th Airborne Corps, the expected standard is jump wings.
As far as conducting a mass-tac over Afghanistan: You'll never do it, you MIGHT air-land w/ follow-on forces. But you will always have a common bond with any soldier who was ever on status (provided you don't become a jump refusal). I've never met anyone who graduated jump school who regretted it.

I was told RN's dont go to FSTs. They utilize doc, anesthesia, and medics... It brightens may day (well night) if RN's can be on FSTs!
Yes... they will utilize 66H8A, as well as Perioperative Nurses on Forward Surgical Teams.

Last I checked there was a maximum age limit for jump school also... off the top of my head, i want to say it is 36 years old. (by the way, everyone who goes to jump school must pass a PT test at the 17-21 year old standards...regardless of age).
Unfortunately, the age limit leaves me out... I regretted not going my first time around in the Army.

So a mike 5'er can't be used on FSTs? What are my options 8a vs. m5? I want the deployment/ in the action/ etc. I like the CSH's and such...
I am not saying you cannot get into an FST unit as a 66HM5... truth is... I dont know for sure... I just know its not an option for me as a Reserve RN to get assigned to one unless I move....believe me.. I tried... its what I wanted.
As far as "options".... seems you have more as an 8A... for one thing your accession bonus is much larger if you sign with the identifier. It seems as if your chance of deployment grows with the 8A as well. However, M5 is nothing to sneeze at.
Either way... in order to obtain the identifier you will need at leat 2 years experience as an RN in either the ER (M5) or Critical Care / ICU (8A) or complete one of the Army's courses in Critical Care or Emergency Nursing after accession.
In my case I had just under 2 years as an RN (all ER) when I signed but ...because I had obtained my CEN cert.. they granted me the identifier.

I could be mistaken but I dont think there is an age limit under the new standards.... I could be wrong. However, like you said.. you must pass the APFT at the 17-21 level regardless of your age..... at age 38...for me... ouch. I could do it but it would not be an easy task.
A 54 year old recently graduated... The school's not that hard; like anything, just don't quit.
I don't know your situation, but if you want action, nothing says you HAVE to commission as a nurse. 11A is always looking
Best thing of 11a is finishing off your stay at Benning's school for Boys with ranger school and having that mental toughness when arriving at your next unit... and needing to gain about 30lbs of lost mass....
Well here is my situation. 23 years old, about to graduate BSN, have had my EMT-IV for the past 4 years, love ER/ Trauma, commissioned about 3 weeks ago... that is the very short of it! I want to really be on a dustoff crew, but as of now those are medics. I have thought about putting in my 4 years, resigning my commission and then working towards a flight medic on a dustoff, bassackwards i know!
