To all the Army nurses out there,
Can Nurse Corps officers go to airborne school? If they can... how difficult is it for a nurse to get a spot? Is it possible to go directly after OBLC?
Thanks all
slots for airborne are usually given to those with airborne identifiers needed in there MTOE by job billet.
My 'guess' is no, you are likely not in an airborne billet as a new nurse.. like i said that is my guess.
Now future opportunities are likely available and something you can talk to your cdr and peers about in order to migrate and chart a career path towards that goal. All my info is purely anecdotal advice and personal opinion~ there are Soldiers needing to go through airborne for mission essential needs vs gaining a hooah badge.. so unless you are in a nurse slot that requires it - it is a pure waste for the army to send you... likely first station is a med center, likely you are static in a hospital.
I know in ROTC the slots for airborne or air assault are really not that hard to get even for nurses because they lump us all in as cadets. With that cadet connection the army assumes we can branch anything ie infantry and thus spots are a plenty (well relatively). For direct commission nurse corps officers I see scrounging spots as a problem because in all honesty unless you are in a FST, its not a job related skill...

I am a new nurse leaving for BOLC in July and will be stationed at Bragg. I have the course gurantee in my contract and I would like the 8A identifier (critical care). I am also interested in attending Airborne School. Since I am already going to be stationed at Bragg do my chances of being able to attend Airborne school increase?
