I believe it is not specific to critical care nursing, but nurses for the entire army needs. I was told by my recruiter that there will be no more boards until October (the start of the 2011 fiscal year) because the need for nurses for the 2010 fiscal year was filled as of December boards. This seems to be across all branches too, going by some of the other posts in this section. I have already gotten the application packet, it takes a while, and will really get things going starting in May, by the advice of my recruiter, to go for the October board. Good luck!
At this time the army nurse corps is what they call 'fat and happy'. They don't need anymore RNs. So not only are they not recruiting new RNs, but they treat their current ones like crap.
I'm sorry you're having a terrible experience - if I were you I'd get orders out of wherever you are as soon as possible. But I'd daresay if it were that bad for everyone we'd hear about it from others.
I have almost 2 years of ED experience, with my CEN cert, so I'll be able to go in as an ED nurse ... but not until the new fiscal year. :) My recruiter called me last week (or was it the week before? Time flies!) and told me recruiting was closed for this fiscal year, at least where ED nurses are concerned; wouldn't surprise me if it was critical care nursing, too. In any case, I plan to have all my ducks in a row for the Army Nursing Board in October.

Garbage. If people that actually have negative first hand experiences shouldn't post their opinions in a "public" forum because they are commissioned officers, then who should? Just the commissioned officers that have positive things to say about their experiences? If there is a lesson to be learned here it may be that the attitude that Rose3721 displays in the above post is all too common in the military and prospective candidates should carefully consider whether this attitude is something they can live with. Please remember that you are a commissioned officer and conduct yourself accordingly. perhaps but that guy was not stating anything worth sharing other than the fact that he is bitter and unhappy. there is nothing to be learned from that post. i would love to hear some of the perceived negative aspects, but be specific and dont generalize by saying that the army "treats nurses like crap" hahahah i mean give me a break. but i agree, negative experiences should be shared.

My recruiter told me there are no longer any spots available for active duty critical care nursing? He said I would have to wait until october. Has anyone else heard this?
