I interviewed for a med-surg position at YRMC in Yuma. I am ready to make the move around Aug to Sept. I will start as an extern 2 while I take my boards.

For those of you who have ever worked at the facility, can you share any input or experiences about the hospital.

I am excited and nervous at the same time. I appreciate any and all comments/replies.

Thanks in advance,

Jess

How about any travel nurses that have worked there? :-)

Specializes in NICU.

No one? Can't say Yuma's the most popular place!

I wish you the best of luck, Jess!! Let us know how it goes! And congrats on being almost done! :)

I'm wondering if maybe a post in the travel nursing forum might better suit this question?

To me, it seems like when we answer questions about Yuma on this board, somebody always gets offended, and thus, we tend to no longer answer them. I don't know of many people who live in Az who have fond things to say about that place, and so that's another reason your question is unanswered.

Good luck to you. I know you are familiar with Yuma the city, so I know you know what you are in for.

Congrats on nearing the end of NS.

Thank you. I think you are right, people just don't want to be bothered with answering. My post was not to inquire about Yuma as I grew up there and know how 'helish' it is ;) . I have never worked or known anyone who has worked at YRMC, so my question was in hopes of getting experiences from other folks who have-good/bad......I'd love to hear them.

Anyhow, I took the job so I guess I will find out for myself. :D

Thank you,

[color=#483d8b] a little late, but:

[color=#483d8b]the only person i've known that worked at yrmc was an xray tech on a travel assignment. she broke her contract and came home early. i'm not sure if it was her, the hospital, or a combination, but she didn't have good things to say.

[color=#483d8b]

[color=#483d8b]but at least you'll be in familiar territory, and hey -- you'll be within driving distance to san diego!

[color=#483d8b]

[color=#483d8b]good luck. hope you love it.

If you don't like YRMC, there are other options. But their pay scale is the best I've seen in AZ, including Phoenix. YRMC has decent benefits and tuition assistance. But if you don't like it, the Dr.'s offices don't use too many RN's in AZ, but there are 2 Hospices and a Dialysis clinic, too. Neither of these pay the greatest, but it is better than average. But overall, the best work load has been in Hospice. If you went with Hospice, I would only work for a "Not-for-profit" hospice, because "for Profit" ones, the bottom line is making money, not providing good care. And that goes for all types of organizations. (In plain terms, "for Profit" implies heavier work loads), and an environment that is less conducive and supportive to the employee and his/her goals) Best of luck in your new job!

Oh, yeah, I used to work there! 1 1/2 years. I'm much happier working in Hospice. And, I've done things, learned new skills in Hospice, that I haven't done in a hospital or other work environment.

Ana,

Thank you for your valuable input! I will definitely keep that in mind.
