ASU vs NAU vs UIU

Hi! I am submitting my nursing application at Mesa Community College this morning and had a question for you. I want to go the CEP route, however, to go to ASU, I still have to finish BIO 202, BIO 205 and CHM 130 before I can apply. For NAU I think I could probably apply sooner (because you can have some credits in process), but they have A LOT more classes you have to take. At UIU I am almost positive I can apply today. My question, does having a degree from ASU/NAU look better on your resume than UIU? What about if you want to continue on and become an NP or CRNA?

I really appreciate the advice everyone gives on here, you guys have helped me a lot!

Good luck applying today. I've been trying to submit my CEP application since yesterday and an advisor won't even see me until they are done with Advanced Placement students. I'll be at MCC all day tomorrow until the advisor can see me. They are currently down to only one advisor at the moment and they go on winter break beginning Thursday until January 3rd.

As far as what school is better, in my opinion that question is answered based off your perspective. UIU is my first choice (due to cost) and ASU is my second choice. I truly believe that your ability, dedication, and attitude will further down the road than what school is on your Diploma. The accreditation is equal and that is what will matter when you are ready to peruse an advanced degree.

Accreditation is really all that matters. UIU is more well known in Iowa than ASU is and vice versa. I am currently about to start block 3 and have been in the UIU CEP since the beginning. With that said, I asked my manager at work (I work for Banner Health) what she thought of me being with UIU and her words were basically "as long as you have the BSN title after your name I don't care where you got it." I chose UIU because they took all of my upper division credits from Grand Canyon, didn't cost as much as ASU, and the advisor actually responded to my emails. I hope this helps, and good luck!

Rachaelofcourse, are you a CNA at Banner? I take my state test next month. I've heard that CNAs at Banner are self scheduling. I've also heard that many of those positions are non-benefited. I plan on working as a CNA while in the CEP program, how has your experience been with this?

Hey! I am a PCA (basically a CNA). I'm part of the CCO team so we float all around the hospital to wherever there's a need. We do a lot of sitter shifts with dementia and suicide patients, but you usually get your own computer so it makes for good study time. I am self-scheduled and non-benefitted, but there are positions (floor or core staff as they're called) that are self scheduling to a point. Basically you'll put in your availability and a schedule will be created for you. What's tough with that is there will be times where you're scheduled to work on a school day because everyone else said they weren't available and seniority takes over. Some of the core staff is benefitted, and the benefits are cheap, but I like being CCO. I am still under my parents health insurance, so I don't need benefits. I also like getting to go to all the different floors and see how they work and get exposure to all types of disease processes. If you have any questions, message me on here!

I called down there today (before looking at AN and your comment) and they had 18 PEOPLE waiting to see an advisor! Needless to say I didn't go. I don't want to wait until January to submit my application but I may have to :(
