Accepted to Scottsdale Community College! A few questions...

U.S.A. Arizona

Ok got my acceptance letter to SCC.... WOW! Excited, it only took 3 years on the wait list :-p ok anyway, have not got a clear answer to if anyone has done or is doing the program:

What is the schedule like? I have to shuffle with work, I've heard 4 10 hour days? Or it changes weekly? Any remote idea would help!!! In any blocks.

How much were books? I have a free ride on tuition so just gotta cover the text books.

Where were/are clinicals done?

Thanks to anyone who replies!

Now that you are in the program would you mind sharing what the schedule is like?? I'm picking my list for fall 2013 placement and I cannot find any information on what the schedule will be?? Any help would be appreciated!!

I am in the NAU partnership program, but some of my classmates were the traditional program with me at SCC. Our block schedule was class on monday, clinical on tuesday, class on friday. Monday was 8-3,,,,friday was like 8-12. Our clinical was at Life care of Scottsdale,,,and Life care of PV.

I'm in block 2,,,so it's still pretty fresh in mind. Block 1 is very, very full. I liken it to a military Boot camp. Make a schedule, do something nursing school related everyday, even if it's only looking over powerpoints.

Books will run you about $1000, but they are for all four blocks so you won't have to buy many, if any, more books.

Anything else??

Specializes in ICU.

How is block 2? I'm in block 1 right now and it's so overwhelming and soo much but so awesome at the same time. Makes me wonder what future blocks are life especially since I know it's only gonna get more involved and harder.

Block 2 is better. I liken block 1 to a boot camp. The 100% competency on check offs were tough, but I understand why they do it. It's a little different in block 2. It's faster, but easier in some ways. It's a little less work load, but still challenging.

Not all clinicals and clinical instructors are the same, but we are expected to build on what learned in block 1. You actually go over some of the same material, just more in depth. I like it because the tests are more focused, instead of an exam over 3-5 different systems or subjects.

Let me know if you have any more questions.

What were the clinical sites for Scottsdale (or if you know, Mesa CC)? I just got accepted into Block 2 at Scottsdale CC and Mesa CC, I am trying to decide which one to go to based on the clinical sites. I know they will all offer great experience, but I am just curious.

Thanks! :D
