Ok got my acceptance letter to SCC.... WOW! Excited, it only took 3 years on the wait list :-p ok anyway, have not got a clear answer to if anyone has done or is doing the program: What is the schedule like? I have to shuffle with work, I've heard 4 10 hour days? Or it changes weekly? Any remote idea would help!!! In any blocks. How much were books? I have a free ride on tuition so just gotta cover the text books. Where were/are clinicals done? Thanks to anyone who replies!

Ok... so today was really interesting... well let me start with the basics, I am working on my Rn as a 2nd career, im in the fire department and dont plan on leaving but was planning on finishing my Rn in 2011 and 2012 and then working 2 jobs because i'm passionate about both... But today I got an offer to work my 3rd job in the fitness industry training and the rate I was offered was around $50/hour, not a sales job, set my own hours, probably work around 18 hours a week, but it's only October thru May... Now for the fall semster this was a no brainer, i was gonna take bio205 my only remaining pre-req, whatever - i'll take it online, but this very same day i got the job offer i also got an email from Phoenix college about possibly getting into the spanish program in 2011... Do I hold off on the Rn program while milking my new job (which i am also passionate about), or do I think about taking the program online thru excelsior (i know rio got canned), or forget about the fitness job...? hmm... there's more details but i know people dont read really long posts, so we'll leave it at this for now.

Taking micro this fall, last of the reqs and currently on the wait list.

I got the 7th edition, this is such a rip off, my advice, find out if the library has a book for the assignments, or if you can team up with a classmate to do the assignments, but as far as the actual text, the human body has not changed since the 6th edition.

pvcc student here, just gotta take bio205 and a humanities, currently on the wait list waiting to be "stamped".

Whatever you do don't take it at Rio!!! Sorry that's all I can advise.

So got a C in Chemistry, the class was horribly difficult and if i wasn't good in the math part i would have failed, I got an A in the lab portion, not sure if it matters, but anyway, should I retake this class? How will it effect my application toward the Rn Program? Got A's and B's in the other pre-reqs.

by the way, 2 more things, ebay and craigslist, saved people i know over $1,000 on text books and/or study materials.

okay so half way thru Bio 202 at Rio and I have an A... by a thread, but still an A. I'm finding that since the whole program is essentially multiple choice, it seems easier than 201, especially on the labs. I'm wondering if this is gonna hurt me in the nursing program having done 202 online? Unfortunately it was my only option this semester. Any thoughts from anyone who took it online in the rn program now?

try to get a job at one of the hospitals, a lot of them reimburse part of your tuition, if living close to school is an option consider that, no car in AZ tough, but doable, and would save you tons. but check into the hospital jobs, or any medical job with tuition reimbursement.

Hi everyone, trying to figure out which option is best for me, I work a job where I'm won't be able to do a full time program, so at first glance, Rio and Gateway are both very doable with my schedule (I have a lot of study time at work). Does anyone have any opinions on which would be better? Experiences to share? Rio is very tempting because I won't have to use as much vacation leave, and the program is done in I think 16 months, but come time for jobs I feel as if the online degree is not quite as powerful on a resume. Also that all being said, which of the pre-reqs count the most toward admission as far as grades are concerned. I have a previous degree so a lot of my classes will transfer toward the program but I'm wondering if I should retake anything to get a higher grade (Chemistry comes to mind). Hey everyone, thanks for the replies, spoke to Advisors at almost all the MCC's finally (holidays kept them away) Gateway's part time option, Glendale's weekend option, and Rio salado would all totally work for me, probably best in the order i just listed. One more pre-req, and two co-req's to go. Thanks again!

Thanks for the replies, sounds pretty intense, but I'm confident i can do it. GCC and Gateway both have programs that arent as intense but the semesters run longer than traditional college semesters. Scrappin how far in advance do you know your schedule? i might very well be able to do a sun-fri program, but if i find out thursday i need to be in friday it makes things complicated. I'm already looking at NCLEX stuff and have over 150 college credits, so the learning part doesn't scare me as much as the making the attendance and clinicals do. Hey everyone, Taking Bio201 and Mat120 at Maricopa Community Colleges this semester. If all goes well I have a lot of previous college and my pre-requisites and co-reqs may be done by December! Bio201 and MAT120 are gonna be easy for me as I have already taken these in high school and anatomy is highly related to my current work. So I wanted to know since I have a lot of free time what I can do to start preparing for the blocks and sort of be ahead once I am into them. I have about 500 index study cards for the NCLEX that I am going over in my spare time, but what else can be done? Recommended readings? Opportunities to sit in a nursing class? Clinicals? I should also say I work closely now with a lot of nurses and have acquaintances with a few as well. Thanks so much!

Hi everyone, I am currently a fire fighter in Arizona and am looking to get my RN in one of the Maricopa Community Colleges, but I am trying to figure out which program will be best for me. I work 24 hours on and 48 off, so for example my Schedule one week is Tuesday and Friday 8a-8a, next week, Sun, Wed, Sat and so on. Now I have a lot of vacation leave and can have people switch shifts with me easily, so i could work tues instead of wed etc. But i can't do it last minute, so my question, which program or college would be best for me? I am doing my pre-requites stuff now part time and on line and it seems it's gonna be easy with work, but once i am in the blocks i am worried about how many days or hours a week class will be. I have no problem with independent study, and really no problem getting a decent amount of time off, but i need to know in advance what days i need off. How does the programs work with clinicals and labs etc? Thanks to anyone that can help!
