Just wanted to see who else was currently applying for the January 11' start date. My application is in RAP review as of today. I went in with like a 3.2GPA and did very well on my TEAS. I scored an 87% on it which put me in the 94th percentile nationwide. When I went on the interview I was told the TEAS score was very good and my GPA was good as well. I'm kind of bugging out. I want this so bad because I don't want to wait a whole year to re-apply for the fall classes. Finger's crossed. Anyone else out there applying now as well?
There are 6 Nursing Courses...you are only allowed to take one per semester since they are 10 or 12 credits a piece. The other classes include Management 100, which you can't take anywhere else but at Aria, Pathology, Pharmacology 1 & 2, Nursing Informatics, Abnormal Psych, Speech, Health Assessment, 2 Humanity Electives (the ones you have may not transfer in), One Music Elective, One Art Elective, Sociology, Psychology, English, Math, Statistics, Developmental Psychology. I think thats it....When I started, I was able to transfer in 46 credits so it knocked my workload down but i still have classes to take along side the nursing courses. If you have any questions you should call and speak to someone at the school
Hi everyone.
Hope you are all enjoyiing Aria SON. I was accepted for Sept 2011 start but had to defer until Jan 2012. I was just wondering:
1. Where are graduations held for Aria?
2. WHEN is graduation for January start students? I know graduations are traditionally in May/June.
3. Have any of you opted for the PSU RN/BSN and do you know the costs of the program AND the duration? How many classes once you have the Associates???
4. Do you like Aria?
I'd really appreciate any info you guys could give me.
Thanks!!!:uhoh3:
I dont know the answers to all your questions, but i can give u an idea until someone else can tell u.
1. I have no idea where the graduations are held, thats a good question though!
2. When u graduate depends on how many classes you need to take still. Some students will have to take one or
penn state rotations prior to going into another nursing course. which means they would take like 4 or 5 penn state classes one semester, but NO nursing class. if you have alot of transfered accepted credits, then your duration will be shorter. it will be 2 years and 10 months i think, if u take penn state rotations. i am currently in my second semester so i am still new at this. i started in january and it should take me 2 years and 8 weeks (capstone) to graduate. i will not be taking any penn state rotations, so i will graduate earlier.
3. most of us will probably go on to penn state online to get our bachelors afterwards. it is the smartest thing you could do. that once again, would depend on how many classes towards your bachelors you were able to complete before you graduated from aria. for those who transfered alot of classes in, theres a few other classes available that would count towards your bachelors, but not needed to graduate from the program at aria itself. for example nursing informatics. last time i looked, it is almost 500 dollars a credit at penn state. i heard it can take u anywher e from 9 to 12 months to get your BSN from penn state once u have graduated from aria. the depends on how many of those extra classes you were able to take while still at aria.

4. i love aria so much and very happy to be here. i assure you u will not be disappointed. unless u are one of those people that are never satisfied---that i cant help :argue:
good luck to you for your start in january. i will be one year in by then. feel free to message me anytime from now till then and during school if u have any questions.
i hope this helped :monkeydance:
Hey thanks Bumblebee!
You really gave me a lot of info. That whole Penn State agreement seems to be very wise, but also expensive. Their site says you need to take 36 credits from them. That's alot of money. (500 x 36) whew! But it beats Drexel or Penn prices. :) I was told on the phone by the Admissions person that we could take the Penn State courses at "aria prices". Does that mean we can take some towards the bachelors degree too I wonder?
I'm supposed to meet with Kathryn McKenney tomorrow so I'm going to review my transcript with her and see about taking another course or two at ccp before I start in January. That will also save me money.
Which classes did you transfer in if you don't mind me asking. I've taken A&P I and II, English I and II, Algebra 118, Sociology, Microbiology, Psychology, Developmental Psychology, Philosophy, Nutrition, Women's studies, Chemistry and a computer class (which I was told will not transfer from CCP - but yet it has transfer eqiuvalency listed with PENN State according to CCP). Aria says they have their own computer course for nursing. I don't understand that. ??
Also, generally, do you find taking the nursing courses hard? I'm really nervous because it says each nursing course is like 10 or 12 credits. The most credits I've ever taken in a semester is 10!
Are you nervous taking care of a patient doing clinicals? Thanks, just trying to pick your brain a bit.
Barb
It costs us like around 4 thousand a semester. I forget exactly, id have to pull out my bill. anyways, that pays for ONE nursing course and TWO penn state classes. SO i would say that is like a discount! u can add an extra penn state class if youd like (for the same price), but not many people do that at all. i would not advise it either. taking 2 penn state classes and a nursing class is enough, trust me :)
Im not sure what computer class they were refering to when they said that...nothing is coming to mind...
I transfered my anatomys, micro, psych, develop psych, ethics, english's, nutrition, sociology, communication-arts-sciences (aka public speaking), an elective, and statistics. that came to 42 credits in.
You took all of your sciences, so you will DEF be able to knock off atleast one penn state rotation. keep in mind that some people that work, have kids, are busy, or WHATEVER REASON, want to take a penn state rotation so they can take less classes with nursing later on. It depends on what u want to do.
Everyone is always nervous at clinicals in the beginning until you get settled in. Usually takes 2-4 clinical days to get comfortable. AND THEN YOU ARE FINE!! Your instructor is always around for help, guidance and reassurance, along with your classmates....so you are never alone!!
As far as being nervous about performing learned skills, you just have to get the hang of it! I believe we are trained thoroughly enough to feel confident about doing what we need to do. Right now we just had our lab on injections....its fun!! Im going to be nervous on my first patient but im trained to do it the right way so i know that i will be fine and get over the anxiety!!!!!!!
As far as the work being hard...well...its not that its hard but its TIME CONSUMING. There is alot of material you have to read through...but as soon as you go to clinical and see things in action, it all comes together.
The first semester has a ton of reading, in the first month, specially the first 2 weeks. It will ease up a bit i promise, but u just have to get through it!!!!
I do not work while i am in school. I usually plan out my life on a weekly basis depending on what i have to read. youll have to decide what days u are reading what chapters for what class and plan it out! the only time i give myself a break is when im with my boyfriend. i dont have any kids either.
if you look at this page, this is what classes you have to take to graduate from aria
http://www.ariahealth.org/default.aspx?pageid=3515
if you look at this page, these are the classes available. this will also give u an idea of classes and times for a typical schedule.
https://fhsonis.fhcs.org/sonisweb200/gensrsc.cfm
the classes not listed on the aria page, but are still on sonis, they are the ones that go for your bachelors degree like nursing informatics and i cant remember what else, id have to look and compare. i thought there was more than one, idk.
so anyways....if you are working fulltime, have alot of kids, stressful things going on...then its going to be HARD because you dont have the TIME to put into it. do u get what i mean? but i would never say its easy.....every test is a challenge.
Thanks!
I'll be posting again - I'm sure. :)
I think I'm going to take statistics at CCP in September. Maybe public speaking too. That will be less "required" classes I'll have to take for Aria. That way, if I do take Penn State classes, they can go toward my Associates or Bachelors.
Talk to you soon.
Good luck with classes!
I'm sure the computer class your talking about is informatics for nursing which you have to take at Aria, but you want to take it there b/c it counts towards your BSN from PSU then....Just like Abnormal Psych, like I had that from MC3 but I retook it at Aria, b/c now it will count towards my BSN. The one they accepted as transfer credit was only good enough towards the RN diploma but not good enough to use towards the BSN, so I figured since you can take PSU classes for the same cost as the nursing tuition why not.
As for graduation, they have one massive graduation once a year (if you have already passed boards they say your name MoMofSix RN) but you still finish and have a "pinning" which occurs 3 times a year after you finish your last semester, which is now the 8 week capstone course. I started in Jan 2010 and never needed a PSU semester and will be done my capastone in Feb 0f 2012.
Also i always took 2 PSu classes with each nursing, except now I am in 310, which is known to be the toughest of all the nursing classes and I am doing 3 PSU classes (i am crazy) the only reason they allowed it is b/c my grades have proved that I can do it and other than the advanced pharm class the other two are lightweights .
As for stats, its taught by Mr. O the most loveable man in the world.....if you can't pass his class well then you need to rethink more than just nursing school
oh and I will need 5 more class towards my BSN after I graduate from Aria, however I have to sit for my boards b/c I have to be an RN before I can take those 5 classes.
hope this info helps
Hello all!! First and foremost, I'd like to say how much I love this sight and all of your great advice. I am STRESSING out about applying to nursing schools! I am in the process of finishing up my prerequisite courses at Bucks and applying to both accelerated schools as well as diploma programs. I really like all of the interesting things I've been hearing about Aria, and it definitely makes me excited to apply there also! :) I am just confused on which route to take: Accelerated BSN, or diploma?
