Calling All Newbies!

As a newly hired informatics nurse, I've been perusing the website and reading similar stories about graduate programs, job searching, learning the role, etc. I'd like to start a network of new informatics nurses (either in school, or in the field for less than a year or two). It seems like we are all going through nearly the same process, just at slightly different points in time.

If you are interested, please reply here. I cannot send anyone a private message yet (I have to create 15 Quality Topics before I have the ability to do that), but I'm sure we can figure out a way to connect.

Thanks!!

Congratulations!!!

I heard about Meditech being a bit "unwieldy" I guess but that is from an end user's perspective. Good luck!

So I have a BS in Information systems, I have 15 years experience in systems engineering and administration. I was thinking about becoming a nurse, should I get my ADN or BSN any help would be appreciated.

I also have certs in

ITIL

PMP

CISSP

(MCITP in System Administration and Engineering)

NetApp (Data Storage)

CITRIX

and I have an associate in Health Information Systems from the Community College of the AF.

Hello! I am an RN with a background in IT. I will have 3 years of nursing experience in June 2015. Also I am beginning the MSN Informatics program with Grand Canyon University in December of this year (2014). What do I need to know about this field? I am hoping to stay with my hospital once I have my MSN degree, but work in an informatics role, rather than a floor nurse (I am an ER nurse).

Hi,

I just saw this post and was very interested. I am currently about half way done with my MSN program for nursing informatics. I would love to have a network of other newbies!

Hi

I'm new in this field currently acting as informatics nurse specilist, let's share our experience together and what projects what we did.

One question I have for those who are already working in Nursing Informatics: Do you use process design methods such as Six Sigma and Lean? In what ways have you used those methodologies? I would love to hear about projects you have been involved in ... I am starting my MSN (Informatics) in December. Did you feel you needed to beef up your statistics skills? Do you use SQL queries to gather data? I am seeking a mentor as I embark on this endeavor to earn my Master's degree!

Sincerely, Anne Marie

Hi Anne, Im a new nurse and I'm really interested in doing nursing informatics, but i dont have any IT background. These process design methods, will I learn them in MSN ( informatics). How's your program going? I'm really planning to start mine soon, but I'm not really sure what do NI do. Will give some insight about the program.
