Anyone out there with some wisdom and insight???????

I've read her first 2 books and found them to be wonderful. I found myself alternately laughing or crying, and continuously nodding my head as I empathized with nearly everything she wrote. I'm quite glad you posted, rather than merely doing a search (and I don't often think that), as it was a great reminder to dig out these books and read them again.

Just wondering! The BLHS "future nurses" club was fairly active in the late '80s, as I recall.

Hello! My husband and I will be relocating in Rockhill, SC this coming August. Both of us have not taken the NCLEX exam yet. Do you reckon we can work as CNAs over there until we pass the exam? I haven't got any idea how much the rates per hour for CNAs in that state at the same time I want to know the actual job description of a CNA in USA since we are employed at the moment in a UK hospital.

I don't see why not. IME the CNA's do basic pt care, and assist the nurses. Some CNA's are further certified by the hospital to allow them to do dressing changes, D/C IV's and foleys and empty drains. You do have to take a written test and a clinical test to get certified. You can only work at private pay assisted living or nursing homes until you get the certification. Good luck and welcome to SC!!

Hello! Any idea how much sign in bonus Piedmont Medical Center provides for nurses? I am a nurse coming from overseas, I was sponsored by an employment agency to work in Piedmont Hospital. They paid for everything, my fare, my visa, including all exams to work eligibly in USA. Will they still be able to provide me a sign in bonus inspite of all expenses they paid for me? I know for sure they will cut a certain $ amount in my hourly salary. That is primarily how their business works anyway.

Hi there,

I work at Beaufort Memorial, which (coincidentally) just opened a new cardiac center, including cardiac caths, which we used to have to send pts out for. The base pay is not great for RN's in SC, particularly in a small town at one of the last public hospitals in the country, but they may give you some kind of incentive for all the experience. BMH has a website you can check out. It is about an hour drive from HHI, though. The good news is most people are commuting the other way!

Good luck,

Lisa

ps Feel free to email me if you have any other questions about the area

I'm a male LPN from NJ with 1 year med-surg and 12 years long-term experience, who's being squeezed with taxes, car insurance and heating bills (not to mention 7 kids and a 100 year old money pit home) in the Garden State. Before setting up the "For Sale" sign on my front lawn, I'd like to find out if the medical facilities in SC hire LPNs, and if so what is the pay scale and do they offer family benefits? Currently, I'm paid $16.75/hr. and don't have to pay for family benefits. I need to juggle the numbers before making a move. Any help would be appreciated~Thanks, David

I wanted to know if anyone had an opinion on the nursing programs at MUSC or Lander University. Which one would be best? I'm a pre-nursing student at the College of Charleston and I know that MUSC is right down the road but it's also expensive to live in downtown and Lander is closer to home. MUSC offers an accelerated program and I wasn't sure how difficult that would be to go at a faster pace. Any advice on which route to take?

Having worked for Carolina Med. Center and Piedmont in Rock Hill. It will depend on your field of interest. CMC is an excellent hospital with every speciality you can imagine. They are a level one research trauma center that is well staffed even on bad days. Piedmont is not a trauma center and the ER has a serious staffing problem on a good day. They do have well covered floor RN to pt ratios. Both are nice places to work, Piedmont has a large sign on bonus and pays well. CMC is one of the lowest paying but you will learn a great deal even with all your years of experience.

I recomend both, Good luck hope you like the upstate of SC. It is cheaper to live in SC than NC.:balloons:

I see that you've worked at piedmont medical center. My family and I are looking to moving to the Carolinas and I was wondering if you could tell me how the pay and benefits are at piedmont medical center?

I work night and enjoy it quite. The pay is more than comparable to other area hospitals. Am not sure about the benefits since I am now single but have heard a few complaints about family cost. If you move to Charlotte or York county you will have plenty of hospitals to check out.

Good Luck

Thanks for the information

Im a graduate of Lander Universitys Nursing program. They do have three options to choose from. RN-BSN(for those with associate degrees already), Accelerated Prgram(3yrs to complete for a BSN), and of course the 4yr completion program. At the time i started Lander in 1998 the accelerated option and the rn-bsn options were not yet available. I went through the four year program which I throughly enjoyed. I had my summers off to work or take extra classes. Im not very familiar with MUSC program but I do know that Lander had 100% passing rate on NCLEX in 2004 and 2002. We had a 96% passing rate in 2003. Which was the year I graduated(the individual who did not pass did pass on her second try). I graduated with 22 students. The teachers are very helpful, there were times I called them at home to ask questions. They were very open and willing to help us any way they could. I loved the campus, the facilities and oppurtunities available. Good Luck with your decision. If you have any questions pertaining to lander id be glad to help you. Take Care
