Anyone out there with some wisdom and insight???????

Specializes in OR, PACU, Corrections.

Hi all,

I' m looking to relocate to SC soon and was wondering if anyone can give me an idea on the pay scale. I'm a registered nurse and have 15 years exp in OR nursing and 3 years in Corrections nursing. I know the pay will be less than the Boston area but I want to find out before selling the home and moving the family away. Any part of SC is OK. Any good Hospitals or ones to stay away from? Thanks for your time. Lori RN

I noticed no one had answered your question. I am not from SC but I think you could look up some sites online. I had a devil of a time finding out info on NC when I started looking. I have talked to some nurses from the CHarlotte area and they say they have had to go to SC to get more work since the CHarlotte area is flooded with nurses. Good Luck. :balloons:

Hi - I work in S.C. and I assure you WE are NOT flooded with nurses!!!

Don't know what to tell you paywise with YOUR particular experience. I have been a nurse for not quite 3 yrs and get $3.30/hr. shift diff., plus $8.00/hr weekend diff. I live in the Upstate area, and work at the highest-paying (and largest) hospital system in the area.

I love this area - we are not too far from the mountains, not too far from the ocean, etc. Most beautiful place in the state is, in my humble opinion anyways , CHARLESTON.

Housing is MUCH cheaper down here than in Ohio (where I am from), but then too the property taxes are much lower too (gee, maybe that's why our schools rank 49th in the nation???)

Everyone is very friendly, and the pace is slower (but getting faster day by day) -

Have you travelled through SC? It is a beautiful state. I hate to leave it, but in a couple years we are moving to Florida to be near stepson and his family.

E-mail me and I will be glad to help you with anything I can concerning this part of the state -

And practice saying "y'all" alot!

I totally agree about Charleston being ONE of the prettiest places in SC. Aiken is lovely too but I don't know much about the hospital except it's across the road from the USC-Aiken campus. You should look at Lexington, (about 15 mi from Columbia) and has one of the best hospitals in the area if not the state!

Palmetto Health has 2 hospitals in Columbia and one in Easley (small town in the upstate). They're the largest in the midlands. PM me and I'll try to get you their URL

I know theyre paying RNs with exp. (at their facilities) about 28 to 30.

I have lived in SC for the past 26 years (and I'm only 32), and it really is a beautiful state - and in great need of nurses. I currently work along the Grand Strand and pay is approx. 27-32, for experience. But these are not trauma based hospitals or teaching hospitals. Although excellent care, not a lot of cutting edge technology, and slow on other fronts as well. Needless to say, the pay scale is a little slow as well. The cost of living is lower than most places as well, and tht makes a difference - just depends on where you end up.

Anyway, if you would like any specific information about specific places in SC, I would be happy to share,

Allie:p

Am looking at moving to Charlotte area. Anybody know top wage scale for critical care rn in rock hill/charlotte area hospitals. have 12 yrs experience. Any gen info on tenent/presby or cms would also be apprec. Thanks

I don't know if you have found the information you were looking for or not but one resource is the carolina health systems website. They have three or affiliate hospitals in the Charlotte area, and have every type of question you could thin of already covered on their site.

New grads start at approx 18-19/hr, with up to 6.5 diff (weekend nights). Jobs in Med Surg are easy to obtain if you want daytime hours - for specialties, nights are the deal. Many places actively recruiting in and around Charleston - Roper is a good example. They offer relocation assist, tuition reimburs, - the works.

Housing around Charleston is not very cheap, though. And it is important to do your homework about the area that you are considering moving to. Just like with any city - there are good and bad areas, new and old. The suburbs are growing like mad - they are in the process of building a new Cooper River Bridge that will make that even grow more. Good Luck.

I didn't realize that the Charlotte area was flooded. I have been receiving literature for recruitment for several Charlotte area hospitals and they are paying top dollar with amazing sign on perks - the works!- for new grads in some cases. Sounds pretty desperate to me. As far as Sc goes, need for nurses is based on area. Grand Strand not experiencing the shortage very critically, but other areas are hurting bad. Of course, I'm sure living at the beach has a lot to do with that.
