ARC/SCC/Sierra college ADN application, Spring 2017

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hi all,

This is my first time applying to ADN programs (just graduated from ARC this last December after 3 LONG years of studying). I have decided to apply to three schools: American River College, Sacramento City College, and Sierra College. I wanted to apply to CSUS, but decided not to because i don't feel i am academically competitive enough for that program. Would love to hear from other people who are applying this semester and share the experience! Maybe some of us will get accepted and this forum will serve as a valuable resource for those looking to get into programs locally. Would also love to hear from anyone who is currently in the ADN programs or has graduated from either of them.

Moved to the Colleges forum for more advice/feedback.

I have applied to the 3 colleges you mentioned, and was denied for SCC and ARC (ARC was my first choice because that's where I completed my pre-reqs.

I got into the LVN Program though at SSC and would've started Spring 2018... However, I got accepted to Sierra for Fall 2017.

Is there any word on your applications? You should've heard back from them by now. Best of luck :)

hi Todd, first and foremost congratulations on getting into sierra. ARC was my first choice because it's so close to home. SCC and Sierra are tied after that because they're both equal distance away from me. I got my rejection emails from ARC and SCC, didn't hear back from sierra. Today, however, i received an email from SCC stating that i was selected as an alternate. I was very surprised given that i heard from SCC about two weeks ago regarding not getting in. I will be attending the orientation this Friday. Fingers crossed i get in. If not, i intend to take a medical language course over the summer and transfer to sac state in august, retake the teas some time over the summer, and just keep on keepin' on! Persistence is key, i just hope to get in sometime in the the next 12-18mos.

Oh wow! You received an alternate spot even after you received your rejection? That's very odd, but so cool. I have two friends that got in to SCC. I'm hoping you get in :) best of luck to you! We have our first orientation on the 23rd. Supper exited.

And ARC was my first choice because I've been there since Spring 13'. I graduated Last summer though (2016), but it'll be nice to kind of get away from there. Sac City was my second choice, but a little farther. But I'm super exited to get into Sierra because it's closer than the other colleges, and they have amazing NCLEX pass rates. I read that Sierra was ranked 6th in nursing programs in Cali, while SCC was like 10 or something like that.

Good for you on graduating! We've both been at ARC the same length of time and finished at the same time lol. I graduated in august. Will you be attending the ceremony on the 17th? Sierra is a great school, I've got a couple of family members that went through their nursing program. I am also thinking that it is odd, b ur I will take the alternate status over nothing lol odd or not.

Thank you! And same to you. I'm glad to get A&P and Micro over with lol. Now it's time to step it up and start nursing school... and possibly die a billion times over the next two years lol.

And no, I won't be going to the ceremony. I know it's a big deal, but the degrees I got were kind of like "secondaries." Almost like something I received along the line. I will however walk when I graduate nursing school :)

The fact that you have been selected as an alternate is actually very good news. What this means is that the school has evaluated you and has decided that you actually qualify for admission to the program. The only major question for you now is what your alternate number is. If you have a fairly low number, you stand an excellent chance of being admitted so you should definitely keep and attend the orientation. I am not sure if they have changed the rules regarding alternates, but when I attended SCC, if you were selected as an alternate you were guaranteed admission at some point in the future, typically the next semester after the semester for which you were accepted as an alternate. Back then if you were selected as an alternate for the fall semester, you were guaranteed admission into the spring semester. That's how it worked back then, I do not know how things work now. I have been out of the program three years now, and I know that they have made some changes to the way they have been doing the admissions there. It used to be that you applied twice a year, now you apply once for both semesters.

I wish you well, I hope you are selected soon as a student at SCC, they have an excellent program!
