Hello all,
I am applying for the Fall 2018 ARC SCC cohort and was looking for a group to join; I didn't find one so I thought I would make a post.
Are there any students who already have Bachelor's that are applying to the program? I am looking into funding and what to do for work while in the program because we do not qualify for aid.
Is anyone applying for scholarships? Anyone going to be working full-time during the program?
Also, is anyone else having trouble finding a TEAS testing time around Sacramento?
Good luck everyone!
I took pharm at SCC before starting my first semester at Sierra last fall. I honestly don't recommend it. There are so many classifications of meds in 6 weeks, and I personally didn't retain any of the info. I don't know how other schools incorporate pharm, but normally it's incorporated with disease processes and actual nursing care. Plus when you're in clinical, you'll learn more and majority of the time give the same meds every time.Is anyone that got into SCC gonna do pharmacology this summer? I read theirs is included in the curriculum but that it can be advantageous to take it. I was certified as a pharm tech but let my certification expire so I learned a lot about drugs but its been a few years so considering taking it in order to get a leg up hopefully. I am still waiting on other colleges but getting more used to the idea of going to SCC.
It could be useful. I didn't take it. Again, schools are different so they may incorporate it differently. When we had Skills lab, they took an hour of time each week and we had a Math Professor come in and teach. First semester is all about pill dosages, how many mg/ml/dose, and injections. If math isn't really your strong point, you could take it.Would a medical dosage class be more useful? I really just wanted it as a refresher and I enjoy learning that type of stuff anyways but you have a good point about it only being 6 weeks. I don't want to waste my time.

This is part of how SCC incorporates pharm in their curriculum. Another part of how SCC does this is they require students to include drug info with every care plan. Oh, and it's very true that you often do give the same meds when you're on a given floor or unit. This fact is also why you go to different floors and hospitals during school. You get exposed to different facets of nursing and different meds. If you keep a list of all meds you give or research during school, you'll find that you have a decently long list but less than half that list will be given most of the time.
