APU 2+2 Spring 2017

Published

Hi Everyone!

I just wanted to create a thread for everyone that is applying for the Spring 2017 cohort.

Has anyone received a call or an email regarding an interview yet?

@ DiscGolfNurse

Hi! I apologize for the delayed response. Thank you so much for posting on here, that is really sweet of you.

I do have an off-topic question for you..

It shows that you are from Temecula. Did you commute from Temecula to the campus? If so, how was it? Did you find that the roads were closed a lot (Cajon Pass)? How early did you leave to ensure that you made it to class on time?

Also, do you have any tips for us? :nurse: Anything that you have found useful that you would like to share?

Thanks in advance!

No problem at all! I know most people don't check this site frequently.

I am from temecula originally. At first I was going to commute but i quickly learned that this was not ideal. The furthest I know of someone commuting was from corona. Commuting presents it's own struggles and dangers. Sometimes you are at school or clinical all day and driving home is a long drive to try and stay awake. I highly recommend moving as close as you can to the school for your safety. The pass does often get closed down whether it's due to accidents, weather, or in 2015 the huge fire that swept across the freeway and trapped a lot of people and burned their cars. So if at all possible, move as close as you can or at least have a place to sleep at a friends or family that's closer to the school than you are.

My advice would be to be to ask for help whenever you need it. Nursing school will be the hardest thing you've done academically up until this point in your life and every single person there is willing to help. Every professor is amazing and wants you to succeed. So please don't suffer in silence and ask for help right when you notice you're struggling. You get what you put into this program. So if you want to skate by then that is your choice. But if you put your whole heart into it, I promise you will be so prepared for the outside world of nursing that it will surprise you. :)

I completely understand, it is a far drive!

Thank you for the advice! It's nice to hear people continually speak so highly of APU. I did a lot of research prior to applying, but it is wonderful to chat with current and former students that have been in the program. Thank you for reaching out!

I also want to congratulate you on being a graduate from APU! :nurse:

Thank you so much! I love being able to give back to APU any helping prospective students in anyway I can. Please, don't hesitate to reach out with any other questions or concerns you may have or come up with as the process goes on. Congrats to you all! You will love this journey and those embarking with you will become family. :)

Hi Tarra! Its been awhile since Ive been on this site but I felt a little anxious given its exactly a week till we begin class so I thought I would check the site for any updates. I am also in clinical group C!!! That's crazy... A familiar individual to share in the experience with, lol... Did you order your books yet? I was going back and forth with purchasing vs. renting. I don't know about you but I have found the last month to be completely stressful but exciting at the same time.

Hello! I wanted to thank you for offering us any advice or experience you have shared from APU. I cannot express to you how much it truly means. I felt that at orientation most of our questions were answered; however, I would like to ask you from personal experience if you purchased or rented your textbooks? Cost wise, there is a huge benefit to renting however it was mentioned in orientation that purchasing your textbooks allowed for access to online sources. Any suggestions?

Thank you again!

Of course. Any questions or concerns that you may have please don't hesitate to ask. I bought all of my first semester books. Those books are the foundation for all of your other classes. For classes like global health in nursing and your bible classes I rented as you do not use those books for any future semesters. I highly recommend buying when you can. You can always buy used which helped me save money as well as use discount sites to find cheaper books. Buying them new however does allow you the online access. You may be able to buy the online access separately but I'm not entirely sure about that so I wouldn't take it completely as fact. However, the end choice will be yours but I feel for best success, buying is your best bet but you can absolutely pass with renting.

Hi there! I'm excited but I think that's being overtaken by me being scared out of my mind!! I bought some off of amazon (saved a couple hundred) and then I'm driving to the bookstore tomorrow at the main campus to purchase the bundle. I contacted the registrar so I don't have to take the nutrition class so I was able to save from purchasing that book. Did you see the email about the reading for next week? So far this experience feels as though it's going to be life changing in so many aspects. I've already connected with more people than I would've anticipated. The prior cohort have been really amazing!! It really feels like we are all in this together.

I did see the reading. I've already began the assignments given my fear of being completely overwhelmed and scared out of mind the first week. Plus, Im afraid that with all the reading, I may run the risk of falling behind, smh... I haven't had the chance of connecting with any of our fellow classmates since orientation. I attempted to use the Radius app through google with not much luck; however, I do appreciate all the help and support we have received from previous cohorts. Their advice and support has truly made this process a lot easier.

Hey guys, so how was the first week? I have been accepted for the summer and I am soooo excited. Any advice for incoming students?

Congrats on your acceptance! We have now completed our first two weeks of class and have already had three test this week. The program is really intense and requires a lot of time however many of the professors so far seem great and are truly knowledgeable. Hope this helps!

Is this thread still alive? I'm a new admit. I'm struggling looking for a place to stay in the area and hoping to get some help from you all.
