Hey there! I was looking to APU's high desert program for summer 2012. I know applications are due Feb 15. I know they have a lot of requirements and they only take in 20 students per application period (3 application cycles per year). I would like to apply but unfortunately I don't think I am competitive enough. The lady I talk to said 40 people qualified for spring and 20 people got in. So I guess is a 50/50 shot. I am thinking of applying just to try my luck.
So my question is...does anyone know about this program or got accepted? Is it good? What were your stats entering? Does the leadership and volunteer experience really worth much? Any and all answers to these questions will be extremely helpful!
Thanks!
Hi there,
What was the application process like, what did they require? I didnt know you could apply without having all the pre-reqs done? I know of one person who was in the first cohort and is graduating at the end of the year, she said she likes the program. I guess in the beginning they were kind of unorganized and didnt have the simulation labs all ready to go, but everything came together just fine.
Hey! You have to have all of the pre-reqs done before you start which if I started in the fall I would because I'm going to summer school.
The Pre-Reqs are:
Literature (the class I need!)
Public Communication
Aesthetics/Creative Arts
PE: Fitness for Life
Philosophy
Heritage & Institution
Psychology: Life Span*
Psychology Statistics*
Foreign Language 1*
Foreign Language 2*
CSA 101
General Psychology*
English*
College Algebra*
Human Anatomy + Lab*
Chemistry*
Chemistry Lab*
Biochemistry*
Human Physiology + Lab*
Microbiology + Lab*
Elective
All of the starred (*) pre-reqs are expected to be completed before starting and the others should be but you are allowed to have 1 or 2 outstanding.
So as for the application, you need
2 reference letters for the undergraduate admissions ( one is a nursing reference form (from someone who was a supervisor to you) and a christian character form (which is basically a recommendation letter),
Official Transcripts
$45 fee
Application itself
I am really praying I get in. I'm not really sure how competitive it is but I applied to the ELM Program and was denied but I feel like my whole application wasn't given enough attention as there were pages of my transcript missing that I sent in but was never looked at so it made my gpa appear A LOT lower than it was.
I recently applies to the 2+2. I also applied to the ELM's and was rejected. They said my science gpa was too low BUT pages were missing from my transcript and to be honest, I sent the missing pages and supposedly they went over it again but I don't think they did. I'm really praying I get it. I read on here that when one person applied 40 people applied and 20 got in. I'm not sure how true that is. I do know the deadline was June 1st and they were reviewing applications. Good luck on applications!

oh wow that's great to hear! Let me know how it goes with the two plus two program. I have an appointment with an adviser tomorrow to review my transcripts. What was you gpa for the sciences and overall? When are you planning on attending the program?
Well I haven't heard anything yet, I'm
Praying I get in. I would LOVE to go through their program. I'm not sure what tried are counting science wise but pretty much all of my Pre-reqs are As and Bs. I got a C in AP2 but I'm retaking that this summer. My gpa is pretty low at 3.25 but if they've seen my recent quarters I've been an A student since going back to school. Did you get a call from APU?
Yeah, I didn't know what term to apply for or if it was full or not. Like I said, I'm done with all classes but 1 and can start after this summer is over.
Where will the clinicals be? And I really didn't think there were going to be clinicals because it didn't really have any info online about it! I'm
Even MORE nervous knowing that only 20 people get in. Did she say how many people applied? Sorry I'm asking so many questions, there isn't much info out there about this program. What term did you apply for?
haha no worries! the clinicals will be at saint mary's in victorville the first semester, then after that you will be traveling. so like san bernardino, fontana etc. I'm not sure how many apply but i"m sure there is alot. :/ Im applying for fall 2013, just so i have some time to bring up a few grades
That's awesome! I read on one post they said about 40 applied but I'm not sure what year that was. Right now I'm working on getting my gpa up. It went from 3.0 to 3.2 and I'm sure it will go up once I repeat my C in AP. I really want to get in!!!! When will you know whether you get in since you aren't planning to start until next year?
