  1. It is a mixture of everything. It's your personality, how you mesh with the team, etc. I actually worked as an RN (not a new grad program) for 5 mo in the NICU and it was not a good fit. I actually then applied and got into Loma Linda as a new grad. They said they really liked my personality and that I was a great fit in their unit. I believe that God has a place for everyone and when you find the right fit, everything just goes well. Your grades are there BUT you tend to shine through your personality. Obviously you don't have any experience as an RN and if you precepted in a specific unit or had the experience it helps. I had a preceptorship in NICU, I worked as an RN in the NICU, I also, completely on my own, paid for and attended a Intro to NICU (lecture style) course that got me over 96 CEUs to further my education and show my passion. I'm sure that helped me as well.
  2. My advice to you is apply EVERYWHERE! I was in an EL-MSN program for nursing. I have a prior degree in Biology. I "graduated" in 2014. I took my NCLEX and passed in December. By April, I had my first job. My title was RN II NICU, which obviously that was my first job. Apply to RN I and II. They will filter you out if they don't want you. After a series of unfortunate event. I needed to find another job. I left September 2015, and I am now in the new grad residency for NICU at Loma Linda (I was denied the previous cohort). I think you should apply everywhere you can. for me, I wanted only NICU. I waited for a NICU position and that is why it took me a moderate amount of time to get the job
  3. Thank you so much!!! So it wasn't like Loma Linda that has a dedicated position. Does it actually say new grad or is it just a clin I position? Thank you! Hope all are loving it!
  4. Do you know when the application opens or do you have a link to the new grad program information? i never found information on this and am interested in this program
  5. Where is the information about the new graduate program...I want to know what dates they have for the program. Is it still open? I know they are already doing interviews
  6. Is the application closed? Where can i find more information about this?
  7. And also, just because you didn't get the tour doesn't mean much. They might not have had time to do the tour if they were interviewing someone right afterwards. I just wish I knew when they would be making a decision. I also have an interview in Jan. for LLU.
  8. That was one thing they didn't really ask other than how would your former employee say about your attendance I think. I still haven't heard anything back so idk know if I got it either.
  9. Have you interviewed yet for NICU? Did they give a time of when they would make decisions? I precepted in NICU and worked for 5 mo as an RN but that job didn't work out
  10. Also, I cannot get Kaiser to save my life!!! Kaiser always tells me I don't have enough experience but they require 1 year or an equivalent course...I have the equivalent course and they still won't give me an interview!!!
  11. Yes, the interview is just with you and then I had like 6 or 7 ppl. The director, the manager for the night shift, a couple of nurses (day and night) and then a couple of educators. The questions were normal interview questions like where do you see yourself in 5 years, tell me about yourself, then they gave me a situational question about an infant who was lethargic after an assessment. They also asked for a time where there was conflict and what I did to resolve it. I did interview for NICU nights and idk when they are making decisions but if it's based off the start of their NICU course which is their didactic then it would probably be starting at the end of January.
  12. That is great! What position are you applying for?
  13. Have you checked your application status? Go back to the careers site and then on the right hand side, there should be something that says returning applicants and then you can look at your application status. I interviewed on the 10th for the NICU but haven't heard anything..It also doesn't say the position has been filled yet either.
  14. So, I actually had an interview with UCI in the NICU on the 10th. I am actually still waiting as I have not heard back. I'm sure each unit is a little different but in my interview it was a panel interview. The director, the night shift manager, a couple of staff nurses, as well as some of the educators. 7 people total I believe. Each person had a question to ask and then I was given a tour of the unit.
  15. I was wondering if anyone had any ways to contact recruiting? I applied for a position and I want to see if a course I took is equivalent to their course in lieu of experience.
