Hello everyone,
I am in the process of applying to APU ELM program for Spring of 2019. I was just looking to connect to other applicants. I will be applying to the main campus. If anyone has any questions feel free to post, I have found the older forums from previous cohorts to be very helpful when looking for advice.
Hey guys! I've been following everyones posts! Congratulations to everyone who got it. I applied to the San Diego campus and have not heard back. At the time of my interview I said I was open to a later start date and a start term at any campus, because I'm from the bay area so it really didn't matter what campus to me. Slightly nervous that San Diego applicants already heard back! Kind of assuming I didn't get in since I didn't get any email. Regardless I have a back up acceptance in the east coast, I just really don't want to leave California. If anyone receives a rejection later or an acceptance email after today, please let me know! So then I'll know if I should still be hopeful or not :). Again congrats to all who got in!
@hca4 thank you! I did try calling and they told me that admission notices would come out in batches still, today and on Monday. But since the day is almost up and I still didn't receive anything
I'm not very hopeful. Also, I kind of have a feeling they just didn't want to tell me I didn't get in over the phone.
I called admissions earlier. Who is Gabriel btw? I explained William is my rep but he is out so they said it would be Jeremy or dave(maybe Gabe?? Lol) they said he was busy w other students so to leave a voicemail. I told them my questions revolve around the reapplication process so I kind of need to know my status given the deadline is less than a month away... staying positive tho :)
Well I just got home from the gym and found my denial letter. Oh well, I kind of expected it. I was surprised to even get the interview given my undergrad performance continues to haunt me.
@SomedayFNP did you do anything new to improve your application? you mentioned submitting a new resume. I plan to start at the venice family clinic which would give me exposure to a clinic setting, NPs roles there, and a different patient demographic (primarily homeless people).
I also think a slip up I made was during the interview when I said I knew I wanted to become an advanced practice nurse and was interested in the NP path, but was also still considering CNRA potentially. This could not have helped. Since then I've gotten more involved in a program at cedars and realize I absolutely want to be an NP, hopefully one day in the cardiac ICU. i think this could only help me since there's no indecisiveness and I have a clear end goal.
My undergrad gpa is 2.7 from U of Illinois in Economics. 3.82 prereq gpa. 4.0 science gpa. I have research methods outstanding which I am taking fall at SMC. There's nothing I can do to change my undergrad but I suppose I could retake speech or stats which I have Bs in from undergrad. Approximately 200 hours volunteering at cedars sinai when I applied - mostly in the ED and had just started a cardiac ICU program. Currently have 280 hours. I also have on my resume when I was a volunteer tutor in chicago for inner city kids, coached my hs soccer team (catholic school btw), and a trip I did to mexico to raise money for an orphanage there. I also am doing another trip through that organization this june and informed them. 2 LORs from professors and the 3rd was a fellow ED volunteer which I plan to replace with a charge nurse I know well. Any advice is appreciated!!!
@inkabruce I'm sorry to hear you didn't get in but it sounds like you're taking steps in the right direction. I'm sure all of your experience and volunteering will help you move forward. The family clinic you're starting at sounds like an amazing opportunity! I'm sure you'll learn a lot there :)
I got a call from Gabriel today and email of acceptance to the APU program spring 2019. However I received a second email from Anthony Persad saying that it was a mistake and I've been accepted into the Summer 2019 cohort instead as spots for Spring are filled at Monrovia Azusa Main Campus. I just wanted to update you guys since this whole waiting process was stressful for everyone!
Wow that is honestly really outstanding, all your extracurriculars/ experience. I'm sorry you didn't get in :/, but I believe your stats are looking good, and applying during summer for a second time will give you a better chance! Your stats can only get better it seems as time passes. Maybe update your letter to the dean and continue what you're doing in being involved. You look like a competitive applicant for sure.

@aschreiman @ftrprovider,CNA Ok, thanks! I am going to call for an update on my status and explain if I am rejected I need to know so I can get the ball rolling on re applying. I would actually have a nurse submit a new evaluation for me, I figure they would still have the other in my file too so why not offer another. maybe i'll get lucky! good luck to you all though :)
