Hello everyone,

I am in the process of applying to APU ELM program for Spring of 2019. I was just looking to connect to other applicants. I will be applying to the main campus. If anyone has any questions feel free to post, I have found the older forums from previous cohorts to be very helpful when looking for advice.

All true... however I calculated program costs and APU is significantly more expensive when you take into account living expenses. Plus my fiancé and I want to live together during the program and I doubt APU would be cool with that lol but APU offers the SNSC and western doesn't. Plus APU confers a BSN and western doesn't... AH IDK!!

How so? I actually miscalculated APU's cost but unlike you, I now am finding it more affordable. For some reason I was reading the listed cost of 75-89k for the bsn portion only, but in fact the bsn 18 month portion is approximately 50k, then depending on your NP route it can be an additional 25-30k - which is very average cost and solid overall! She confirmed these numbers with me as well. It looks like Western is 55k for tuition alone as well. Am i missing a number?

Oh my gosh maybe I miscalculated APU! I had 120k in my head for some reason! Man I'm gonna need to make a serious pros and cons list. I have to let western know by April 6.

Im super nervous about APU b/c each location has 20 spots available and after reading the prior cohorts forum, a looooooot of students stated they were offered a spot in the Spring 2019 cohort...ugh makes me nervous, just less spots for us!!

Has anyone followed up after their interview? I feel like I should but I'm debating now what I would even tell them. I interviewed on Feb 26th

What campus did you apply to

I don't know about other locations but for main campus, the interviews don't end until 1 week before May... which is fine with me because I still haven't gotten my interview -_-

@SomedayFNP! Congrats so much!!!!!!! Honestly both schools are so good I wouldn't be able to choose too!!

@NursingSanDiego Thank you!! I'm worried about the fact that western doesn't confer a bachelors. Will I be able to find a RN job during the second part of the program without a BSN??

@aschreiman I sent my interviewer an email just thanking her for her time and whatnot

@FutureNurseA I thought about that too! I think at least 5 of the Spring 2019 spots have been given away. If I get admitted for anything later than Spring 2019 I'm gonna turn down the program. It's not worth it to me to wait another year. Plus Western might not give you a bachelors but I do know an FNP who graduated from there who works as a PCP in Hawaii, so I know I will get a job SOMEWHERE after the program

@SomedayFNP I don't think that having BSN will matter because you will be eligible to sit in for the NCLEX. Plus one of Western U requirement for continuation for FNP is 1 yr experience as RN (from what I gathered). I agree that earlier graduation is better! Legit congrats!!!! ^o^

Thank you!! :) gosh I hope so! I just know hospitals tend to hire only BSNs but it doesn't specify on Westerns website that you need 1080 acute care hours, just 1080 RN hours so I could do outpatient or rehab or even school nursing

Personally, I would just leave them alone. I sent the standard thank you and am following up on the research methods course - where did everyone take it? I guess the only thing you could ask is your points? but who knows if they use other deciding factors as well.

That's also kind of nerve wrecking about spots already being allocated :/
