APU ELM MSN Spring 2021

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Updated:   Published

Hello,

just starting a forum thread so all applicants or future applicants can communicate with each other regarding the application.

I have applied to Azusa Pacific ELM program for Spring 2021 at the Inland Empire. I have not gotten an interview yet but hopefully soon, fingers crossed. Anyone gotten a response yet?

Do you know how many questions (approx) the interviewer is going to ask?

I want to say it was around 5 or so questions which were pretty standard interview questions. The questions I had were: why nursing, why apu, what are your strengths, what are your weaknesses, how do you handle stress, tell me a time where you had a dilemma with a coworker. My interview was approximately 45min in total.

Thank you so much! this was super helpful.

Trying to prep for my interview right now and I know there were like 20 questions on interview question page so I was trying to figure out which ones they were going to use

Honestly, you will do fine. What I did to prepare myself for the interview was researching apu’s history and practice saying my answers out loud. As what many others have stated, it was a conversational interview. Be sure to have post interview questions as well. Good luck !

Do you mind if I ask what type of post interview questions you asked?

No not at all. The questions I asked were about the kinds of student resources apu has to offer, doing presentations on desired research, and community outreach programs.

Just finished my interview w/ -----------------. She was so sweet and easy to talk to. It was definitely a conversational interview. She said we'll be hearing back end of May.

CONGRATS! I am sure you did really well.
oh WOW!!...end of May? I guess they changed their deadline. I thought it would be the first weeks of May..

I am happy to read all of your updates during this process. Wishing the best of luck to you all.

I also just want to reiterate my confusion during my interview, though. I am seeing that many of you had a conversational-esque interview, whereas the only question I got was the typical "why do you want to be a nurse?" question. In fact, at the start of the interview, Professor -------------------- opened up by saying "this interview is meant to get to know you a little bit better, but it's easier if we finish as fast as possbile". In my head, I thought either I have no chance whatsoever or I should be okay. We proceeded to talk about program details, if I needed to take any more courses (I was missing Research Methods), if I had to relocate (no, I live in Rancho Cucamonga 20min from the SB campus), if I retook any courses (yes, Microbio: B- to A), and if I had any clinical experience (yes). She seemed to check off things on her paper, so I'm assuming there was a requisite list. I am not sure if I was being scored, but I guess I was in essence. When asked if I had any questions, I asked about opportunities for community outreach, what to expect during the 4 years, and if becoming an educator was a natural part of her career evolution. I also talked about the conundrum of the nursing shortage and wondered why educators aren't compensated more, seeing how their value is so high (1 educator = x amount of future nurses, kinda). I think she misinterpreted my statement, thinking my question was motivated by money because that'd be a bad look on my part.

For those who interviewed at the SB campus, whether in-person or virtually, did y'all have the same experience? I'm super anxious because I rescinded my acceptance to CBU with hopes of getting into WesternU or APU as they are my top choices. Unfortunately, I got rejected by Western, so I'm praying for good news come May.

But again, good luck to you all!

Hello, this is a friendly reminder to NOT post names/identifiers of School/Program staff. It is a violation of the Terms of Service to do so.

Thank you, and we wish you success in getting into the program of your choice!

Hi! I also interviewed at the San Bernardino campus as well. My interview was very different than yours. I interviewed back in February and my interview was similar to others where the interview took about 30-45 minutes and the interviewer asked about 5 or so questions. It was also more conversational than a standard one-on-one type of interview. At the end, the interviewer went over some specifics of the program and had me sign a form stating that we completed our interview. I asked when we would hear back and my interviewer said that we should hear back in April (which has probably changed to May due to COVID-19). I actually also applied to Western and I got placed on the alternate list so I'm still hoping that I get a yes to either Western or APU since they're both amazing programs.

I hope we all hear back soon with good news!

Hi all!

I also got interviewed back in February and am now anxiously waiting to hear back. I applied for the inland empire campus.
