APU ELM MSN Spring 2021

Updated:   Published

Hello,

just starting a forum thread so all applicants or future applicants can communicate with each other regarding the application.

I have applied to Azusa Pacific ELM program for Spring 2021 at the Inland Empire. I have not gotten an interview yet but hopefully soon, fingers crossed. Anyone gotten a response yet?

Hi everyone! I hope everyone is doing good and is safe out there. I know it’s unlikely due to what is currently happening, but I wanted to see if anyone got any updates on interviews, decisions, etc. I know APU was conducting their in-person interviews the first week of March. I am not sure what is happening now...

I had my interview in February, and my interviewer told me decisions would be physically mailed out by mid-may.

@Ella_Jo I just finished my interview. My interviewer's name was ————- and she was super nice and friendly. She actually asked me lots of questions ( it took about 30 minutes) but it was more conversational and casual because they know we are obviously not nurses and have different backgrounds. The only thing is that she didn't ask me to send the pre-admission form. did you interviewer ask you?

I was also interviewed by ————-. She didn’t ask me either, but she walked me through it and ————- sent an email prior to the interview instructing me to fill it out and send it in.

@Ella_Jo So we had the same interviewer! Same here, I received an email from ————— regarding the writing sample and the agreement form prior to my interview. ————- went over it briefly. I was confused whether she needs the form to be filled out or not, So I email her after our interview and she said email it to me. I was concerned what if she didn't like my interview and that's why she didn't ask me to sign the agreement! haha

Hi guys, I interviewed at the I.E. campus prior to this outbreak. Did anyone else interview there? Personally, I didn't like the formatting of the interview, as it wasn't very conversational at all. Also, based on the Google doc they gave us to fill in our date and time, it seems as though that there weren't many interviewees? The doc had 23 slots, excluding those who opted to interview virtually + waitlisted students from other campuses. Is it wrong to believe that most of would get accepted?

When I went in to interview, the first thing she said was "this portion is to get to know you. But, it'd be easier if we finish this quickly". To me, that either meant I had no chance or I should be in a decent position? The only question that invoked any type of conversation was "why nursing?". Other than that, I just received an overview of the program from year 1 to 4. I recently rescinded my acceptance to CBU with hopes I get into APU because it's my top choice.

Regardless, good luck to you all! Hope to hear nothing but good news. Take care, and stay safe. And remember, everyone is so important.

I also interviewed at the IE campus. Mine was In February. I was also under the impression that I would have a solid chance but I think they are doing it in rounds. I'm not sure how they choose who will be in each round because I submitted my application the day before the deadline so it’s definitely not based on the order they received the applications...my interview was pretty conversational but I did notice that the interview is based on a points system. My interviewer left her office to get me copies of the agreement that I had to sign and I was able to glance at the papers she had in front of her while she was interviewing me (I was not snooping, she left them on her desk in front of me LOL) but each section had a maximum score and she would write in the score for my answer or response. And the entire application gets a score; GPA, letters of recommendation, etc. she also told me you get points deducted if you had any repeated courses...but to my knowledge, each campus accepts 25 students per cohort. All the interviewers get together in front of a board and represent each student and thats how they make their selections.

Hi guys I interviewed at IE in person early March prior to the outbreak as well. I was surprised and slightly disappointed that my interview didn't consist of any questions relating to nursing or APU, it was mostly situational questions.@NguyenersClub I wasn't aware that there was a Google docs! I set a date through the phone. @Sieldani I didn't know it was a point system also. Do you know what the total points for the interview was? Thanks guys ?

Based on what people have said on the forums for their interviews, it appears that there’s a general format, but the tone and atmosphere of the interviews can vary somewhat based on the location one is interviewing at and maybe interviewer as well.

I can only speak from my experience; I interviewed at the Monrovia campus. I’ve had high pressure group interviews for jobs before and this was the complete opposite-more conversational and essentially a getting to you and if you would fit type of interview. At least that was my take-a-way. I was emailed basic info about interview details including check-in info and that there will be a writing prompt. I completed that portion which was followed by a one-on-one interview. My interviewer asked me some general questions (we discussed my healthcare experiences from my resume, then questions such as why nursing, some situational prior experience, etc.). Tone was very conversational. Then she reviewed & me to sign and initial forms that they reviewed the program and discussed specific key components with me such as the academic, financial obligations & other program expectations they expect if admission is granted. After that any questions, I had remaining she reviewed them with me. Overall, I think it took about 45 minutes excluding the writing portion. Everyone I came across, from the security guard to another gentlemen who was the head of a department/instructor ( I forget exactly what department/subject) who introduced himself (when I was doing my writing portion) and gave me some kind words of encouragement and brief words about the program to my interviewer, were professional, welcoming and straight-forward. I personally prefer the in-person interview contact because it gives me an impression of the program (my interviewer was also a professor that taught students in the first semester) so it’s nice to meet instructors ahead of time to get a feel of the program. I think I’m able to convey more of my personality and self in person then in video, but I understand that due to the COVID-19 pandemic situation we must all adjust accordingly.

I was glad I got an opportunity to interview, period. I didn’t see any grading criteria or other forms that my interviewer had. I don’t think my interviewer wrote much down except when she was reviewing the program with me and when I had specific questions. The program and staff appear to be excellent.

Everyone please stay safe and keep family, friends and all the hardworking front-line people in your thoughts/prayers!

Hi guys,

Just got an email for an interview online (Main campus) wondering if anyone got the same?

Also, I was wondering about what the writing portion is about?

Hi! I am not sure if they give the same reading piece to everybody, but from what I know, it can be a journal article about dealing with stress in nursing schools, ethical issues, religion, etc. Basically, you just summarize it in your own words. Those are very straight forward articles. You pick the main points. Don’t focus too much on the length, but more on the content. I think the school wants to see you are proficient enough in expressing yourself in a professional manner..good luck!

Thank you so much! this was super helpful

Good luck on your virtual interview, puglover!

Do you know how many questions (approx) the interviewer is going to ask?
