April 2018 California Cohort

Nursing Students Western Governors

Hey everyone, I applied for the April 2018 California Cohort, did anyone else apply? The next cohort after this isn't until August 2018. Anyone know when they'll make their decisions on admissions for April? Hopefully soon!

Nothing yet :whistling: the wait is killing me lol

Same. I talked to my advisor today. She said no news and would keep me posted.

I received a phone call just now from my admissions advisor. I have been accepted to the April 2018 California Cohort!!! I asked about hospital/clinical sites and she still stated it could be at any of the contracted hospital and clinical placement is up to the California Director. But anyways, I'm so happy and excited to have been accepted! Anyone else get notified yet!?

Congrats on getting in! I am still waiting to find out too. If you don't mind me asking, what was your TEAS score?

April Cohort is cancelled. No further details provided. Just got the call from my advisor. She has no more information, doesn't know why it was cancelled, doesn't when the next cohort will be, August cohort may be cancelled as well, and she couldn't even guarantee that I"d be offered a seat in the next cohort. My name might go back into the bucket. I'm devastated. Worked for two years to get in, finally get in, then told the next day, nope, just kidding.

How can they do that? That's so heartless!

My guess is the hospital backed out, but who knows honestly. Interesting too because in California recently added a new hospital partner and upped enrollment from 30 students a year to 76 a year across all hospitals.

I'm going to call and speak with a counselor. I really need to know what is going on.....

You can try but I don't think anyone will be able to tell you anything, considering my advisor had to call all her students and rescind their admissions, and she hasn't even been told anything. She said she'd let me know more when she finds out. But it is now a holiday weekend so they likely won't be in until Tuesday, and she said they're waiting for more information from the CA nursing director.

I called to confirm and the admissions counselor said that April was cancelled, she didn't know why, and that there was no word about August. I was very upset by the call. Other schools have to deal with hospitals and clinicals, but they don't rescind offers. It is definitely making me think about going elsewhere when had been my first choice. I really thought it was a stable program.

I think it is a solid program, and I understand if unforeseen circumstances arise; however, I wish when they contacted me to rescind my admission, they would have provided me more information, such as when the next cohort would be, if I was automatically rolled over to that, etc., instead of just telling me my cohort has been cancelled and we have no further information for you, sorry.

If California cohorts keep getting cancelled, I'm wondering if it'd be worth it to apply for the South Utah program and commute back and forth...I don't have any other options for programs as this is the only one that works with my schedule. I don't know if this is a hospital thing, a thing, an accreditation thing, BRN, etc.
