Applying To SDSU, Southwestern college, and San diego City.

Published

Hi Everyone! im applying for fall 2023, then later applying for city and grossmont for Spring 2024 incase I don't get in.

My stats are:

TEAS 6 90.7 (I took it in may 2022)

pre req 4.0, overall 3.87. (3.87  in pre req according to SDSU)

I would be 100/100 for southwestern, maxed in points in SD city and Grossmont as well.

I didn't know I could apply to SDSU  directly into the BSN program so I let my chem suffer and got a C. so my GPA for sdsu is 3.87 for both pre req and overall. Id be applying at  66/80 points.

I was wondering has anyone transferred from a community college directly into sdsu nursing program. If so what were your stats?

I also wanted to know how sdsu goes about accepting ADN from a community college into their BSN. WHat do they consider? Im sure its also competitive but I havent hear if they also look at points or grades from the ADN program, or scores from NCLEX. I want to know so while in school, I know what to work on. Thanks in advanced!

Hi! I'm also applying to Grossmont and SDSU for fall 2023

There are posts from previous years with people who share their stats for SDSU. I believe people who got in had above 70 points. It's super competitive ;( and my counselor told me that last year they only admitted 16 students.

For the bridge program (ADN-BSN) its not as competitive, it's more like you apply and get in. But you can find more info on the SON website. I think if you go to Grossmont you can dual enroll and do classes at SDSU for your BSN in the summers!

My stats are:

4.0 Pre-req, 4.0 overall

I will be taking my TEAS in 2 weeks, so if you have any pointers it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks and good luck!!

Hi! Im currently at southwesterns nursing program an graduating may 2023 but I can tell you theres almost zero competition to get into the bridge programs once you are enrolled into one of the ADN programs. They come to the campus an you basically pick which one you want. They do want you to have the organic chem done for SDSU before you can take the concurrent enrollment through them though ( an as long as you pass) . If you don't have it you actually cant take classes. Thats what happened to alot of us in the current cohort. I didn't have it but im in the PLNU bridge myself. SDSU has a class that replaces a 4th semester class for leadership that lessens the load which would have helped alot because it is heavy but you do need that organic chem. Alot of the cohort ended up going through GCU actually because they didn't require additional clinical rotations while SDSU has an international travel requirement an I know a few of us went through point loma because of the public health certification. They will explain it all once you get into your programs you guys decide on. ( Theres also a big price difference between SDSU, PLNU, AN GCU)

@JenCST619I am planning to apply to Southwestern in 2023, as I am sure you know it's pretty hard to find much info regarding potential schedule for the program - I have heard that SWC has an evening/ weekend program - do you happen to know if they still have that program?  I hope the program is going well for you so far!

For the schedule they do have a weekend/evening class and they have a day class. For the first two semsters the classes are on tuesdays and the last two semesters the classes are on mondays. If your a day student its from 9:30 till 3:00 basically and evening its from 4:30 till I think 9 or so. I am a day student so im not sure for the evening course. When I found out I got into the program I got ahold of the director and special requested the day cohort because I have kids and I had issues with child care and scheduling so they really helped me out on that. The program does try to support you as much as they can and they did help me with that. Clinicals are a different story it really depends on what they get. We were on the tail end of covid so we took whatever we could get since alot of the hospitals were still weary. it's better now where the hospitals are letting everyone in now. The program is HARD! but its doable. just try to stay as positive as you can and always come from a place of learning has really helped. I wish you the best in getting in!

OMG! so sorry, I tried to apply before but didn't think I had points to cause I didn't see the reply option. im so dumb . Hope the TEAS went well. my only advice would have been restudy your sciences especial physiology and micro and not to overthink the reading.

When are we notified if we got into the southwestern college nursing program? Does anyone know what score is considered competitive?

I know they have already started to notify people as two people I know got rejection emails Wednesday.

Oh wow that's quick! Do you know if they were missing things in the application? Or just had really low points?

They were not missing anything in their applications. I know for a fact they actually both had more points than me and I still have yet to hear anything back on my status.
