Applying to SWIC Fall 2011?

Published

Hello all~

I'm working very hard to see if I can enter SWIC nursing program for Fall 2011. I would like to make of this thread a place where we can give each other support. Right now I'm taking a couple of classes ;Chemistry & Psychology until October and then I start Microbiology, Developmental Psychology, and Sociology until December plus the CNA course in November. I'm going bananas with all the credits and amount of work I'm dealing with. I'm committed to this but I have to confess I'm so scared I will not reach my goal and not have enough points in the end after all the effort. Thank God I can express myself here because I think no one around me understands what I'm going through to make it happen.

I had to make my decision today, so after talking with many people, I went with nursing. Obviously my main concern is getting in, but then I just hope I like it and do well!! As far as what I want to pursue after school I am not sure. I would think eventually I would do better in an indirect role with patients, but I am sure a couple of years in critical care or the er are needed to learn all aspects of dealing with people before you are able to move into a more specialized field. How about you, what interests you? Since I wasn't really ready for this path, I also have quite a few prereqs to finish while taking nursing classes now too. I hope that isn't too much for me!! Do you know of any hospitals that will pay for school from the beginning if you agree to work for them after graduation?

Hi Trace,

I apologize for my lateness in responding. Between the nasty weather and a wonderful stomach flu that raged through my household, things have been crazy to say the least. I finally took the DET today and also scored a 6. I was surprised how much easier it was than I had anticipated. Like you, I also only scored 2 points on the English and found it much trickier than the math. I was counting on the English side to pull me through, so like you, I was surprised at my score. However, the graphs and charts section was not exactly what I expected from English! LOL

Let me know how things are going on your end. I think you'll do fine in taking the prereqs along with nursing courses. You obviously have good focus and study habits and it really does make a huge difference in what you can and cannot handle.

I'm not sure whether any local hospitals offer scholarship contracts or not, but you may want to check with the nursing department as they may know.

Also like you, I'm generally more interested in indirect patient care. I think I would like to get a Master's degree in Public Health with an emphasis on Epidemiology. I don't really need an RN to do so, but having a clinical background opens far more doors. In the end though, I'm keeping my options open. Since this was never my intended path originally, I think doing clinicals in different areas will shed some light on which direction I might prefer.

Hey I just completed my application process for SWIC's nursing program for 2011. I am very nervous and anxious because all I can do right now is play the waiting game. I am hoping I can get into this program for this year and was wanting to meet others in the same shoes as me! Hoping my points are enough to get me in!!!

Hi Briella. Welcome. Did you take your exam yet? How did you do? KJ and I both found the math much easier than the English. It wasn't anything like I thought it was going to be. I think we both got 6 pts. How about you? How about your prereq's, do you have all of them complete? I have quite a few to do yet. KJ is on top of it and is finished I believe and has an amazing 22 points, I however only have 19 points, so I am a little concerned about getting accepted. How about you, do you feel pretty confident with your points? May I ask how many you have. If that's too personal I understand, just curious to see where most people stand. I am starting to get really nervous as time goes by. I guess we have another 5 or 6 weeks and we should know. Tic Toc Tic Toc....

Wow KJ, epidemiology, too much data and statistics for me I think. Of course at this point I really have no idea what I want to do. Like you I am hoping that doing clinicals will shed some light on what interests me. There has too be so many areas in the field that at this point I am not even aware of. I'm hoping something just jumps out at me that stirs a passion I wasn't even aware of until that moment. That's what I hope anyway. Then again, at the very least I hope I can just find a job that I don't absolutely HATE getting up everyday and going to.

Hey all, new to the forum! I applied for the nursing program with 18 points and am anxiously awaiting acceptance letters next month. I know last year the cut off was 16.5 points so I am REALLY hoping that I get in.

I thought the English portion of the pre-nursing exam was kind of hard and didn't get any points for it! I did however get all 4 points for the Math.

Good luck to everyone, from the sounds of the points you have all received you should be starting this Summer! :yeah:

Has anyone gotten any information yet? My sister got an email two weeks ago saying her application had been processed. I still haven't heard and on Monday, finally my "to do" list on estorm was gone...but I am not sure if that is because they finally processed it or because the deadline had passed so it just timed out.

I got the e-mail back in December after I took the pre-nursing exam--if it's anything like previous years, we should know within the next 3 weeks if we are in or not.

Hi Everyone, I'm just stopping by to say hi and to wish everyone luck that applied to the program for this fall!!! I've been impatiently :) waiting for my letter to come...

Good luck to everyone on the thread. I will keep my fingers crossed for all of us and looking forward to meeting everyone this summer.

Hi everyone! I just wanted to say good luck getting into SWIC's program. I used to live in Belleville and considered it. I'll be going to St Charles Community College program starting this fall!

The waiting is killing me.....I sure don't know why it takes so long!!!
