Applying to Sacramento State for spring 2015 question

U.S.A. California

I am applying to Sacramento State for Spring 2015. I still need to take Physio and a few misc. classes like food and nutrition, an arts course, and a english critical thinking course. What I am wondering is this: If I were to take Physio during the summer, got an A lets say, would Sac consider me over other applicants because I have completed all my pre-reqs and co-reqs? I have a 4.0 right now. I am debating whether I should take this Physio summer class at a JC an hour away because the professor is better than the one I would be taking in the fall at a closer JC. Let me know what you think!

Thank you, I really hope so too. I feel good since the cutoff was 71 last time, and it usually goes up by 2. Plus there will most likely be fewer applicants for spring. But at the same time, it's all up in the air. I wish I could just know how many points I needed, but it depends on everyone else.

Keep in mind that the point cutoff means the point score of the last alternate who was accepted, not the top #80th applicant. For Fall 2014, the top 80# applicant had 76 points, and the reason why a person with 71 points got in was because roughly 42 selected applicants declined. Every semester they reach a different amount of alternates, but 'm not going to count on 40+ people declining. I'll feel safe if I'm alternate #5 or higher.

Yeah I know the point cutoff is from the last selected alternate. But I'm sure they will get to more than 5 alternates, isn't it usually like at least 20? I think a lot of people who get in are also applying to other programs that are a better fit. Hopefully that's the case this time :)

So for the applicant pool statistics, they list # enrolled, declined, ineligible, and qualified alternates. Is the declined number referring to the number of people who did not accept their spot? That's what I originally thought, but that doesn't add up since last fall the number is 34 who declined but I believe they got to 43 on the alternate list. Does anyone know how that works? I'm just curious, and trying to get an idea of how it works since last spring only 8 declined.

Hi there! I'm a graduate of the Sac State nursing program (Fall 2013) and I thought I would just share a snippet of the text from my admissions decision way back when, to see if it helps clarify some people's questions about alternates and rankings and whatnot.

You were part of an exceptional group of 243 candidates from which we will enroll 80. Seventy-five candidates have been offered admission; five seats will be held open until Monday, December 5, the deadline to report any errors. If an applicant declines admission, we will immediately offer the seat to the next alternate on the list. The candidate ranked number seventy-six is now alternate number one. Your alternate number will not change. If you are alternate number one through five, you have an excellent chance of being admitted. The alternate list is maintained until the end of the second week of instruction.

I applied for spring 2015, and I can't wait for the end of November to receive our letters. It's simply agonizing! I have a total of 77 points. It's a little frightening that it's getting more and more competitive to get into the program. I hope we all can get in! There is one positive aspect. Looking at previous years, it looks easier (point-wise) to get into the program in the spring. For example, 2014, the average points for Fall 2014 was 80.4 points, while Spring 2014 was 77.1 points. For this, I took an average of the average GPA and TEAS points. I think for Spring 2015, the average points will be 78-79. I highly doubt it will be 80 or above, but I could be wrong. This may not be very accurate, but it gives you a rough idea.

I hope we'll get our letters a bit earlier!

Yeah it is getting more and more competitive, and that is scary to me too. I think 77 points should be fine, at least I hope so. I'm hoping my 74 will be enough. The wait is driving me crazy since Sac State is my top choice. I think last year they sent out emails a few weeks before admissions decisions came out letting the applicants know how many points the student ranked 80 had (I think it was around 76, but of course the cutoff went down as people declined their offers). I'm hoping they do that this semester too, that will at least give us an idea of where we're at.

If the average total points for spring 2015 will be 78-79, I think 74 points could likely land you a spot in the program. I don't think everyone applying has 80+ points, especially for spring semester.

Finally some info!

"Based on student-reported data, the applicant ranked 80 has 76 points--the applicant ranked 120 has 71 points. We anticipate the cut-score will be slightly lower when we have completed the evaluation process, but we regret it will be higher than previous semesters."

I'm not going to celebrate quite yet, but it sounds like I will be above the point cut off unless I managed to completeley misunderstand the point calculation. It sounds like as long as you have 71 you are at least an alternate!

This was for Fall 2014. Looking at the numbers, Fall semester looks much harder to get into. 80.4 points was my calculated average for this semester. Applicant #80 has 76 points. That's a 4 point difference from the average. I know I totally don't have enough data to really prove anything, but looks like you might have a shot if you're anywhere near the mid 70's.

I guess I'm over-thinking this! It's my favorite occupation when I'm anxious/worried. :):)

Oh don't worry, over thinking it is my favorite thing too. It is nice to look back at previous trends and make predictions, even if we don't really know anything yet. And 76 wasn't even the cutoff, I think it ended up being 71.

I wish I could know if I got in before I start planning the next 2 years and beyond in my head, but the planning has already begun.

Hello all future nurses. I too applied to spring 2015. Cant remember what my points were though. I think it was 72 maybe? My nursing GPA was 3.9something (stupid sociology B+ screwed up my 4.0), I have work experience and my tease score was 86.7. The other school is suppose to be mailing out decision letters by November 14th. How bout Sac state? Anyone know?

Looking at the previous semesters, it will probably be around November 26th. Interestingly, for Spring 2013, people started getting letters earlier.
