Applying to Sacramento State for spring 2015 question

U.S.A. California

I am applying to Sacramento State for Spring 2015. I still need to take Physio and a few misc. classes like food and nutrition, an arts course, and a english critical thinking course. What I am wondering is this: If I were to take Physio during the summer, got an A lets say, would Sac consider me over other applicants because I have completed all my pre-reqs and co-reqs? I have a 4.0 right now. I am debating whether I should take this Physio summer class at a JC an hour away because the professor is better than the one I would be taking in the fall at a closer JC. Let me know what you think!

I can't help but notice that I'm the last 3 comments (now 4). But I can't help it, I am soo anxious already. I can't stop checking this thread to see if anyone else feels the same way. This is going to be a torturous wait. Did anyone else get the "application received" e-mail?

Hi! you are not alone! I also received the application received email. I am a second degree seeker with a BS in cell bio from UC Davis I turned down an acceptance for a entry masters program which i should be in right now because of the sky high cost. So I am really hoping to get in for Spring 2015 :)

Cool! Good luck! I'm a second bachelors student as well. I'll also apply to USF for entry level masters (reapply, was rejected last time around) but I would much prefer to go to sac state.

Hi everyone!! I'm applying to Sac State for Spring 2015, too!! I have 73 points right now. I anticipate that there will be less applicants for Spring so I hope we all get in!!

Quick question: I took the TEAS twice and got the EXACT score both times. I was wondering if that has ever happened to anyone else?? I studied more the second time around in an attempt to boost my score, but to no avail. I was a little disappointed when I ended up with the same score, especially since I submitted my application mid-September after I retook the TEAS. I also have a friend that retook the TEAS with me that day, and he also got the EXACT score on both attempts. And like me, he studied way more the second time around. Any thoughts??

That's interesting that you got the exact same score. I scored pretty close in my two attempts (within 3%) but I also took them really close to each other. Were your scores the exact same in each category too?

I had a dream last night that they couldn't let me in because of a bad grade I had gotten in a random class I took for my first bachelor's degree, even though it wasn't one of the classes they look at. I was so sad. I think I'm thinking about this too much haha.

Nope. The scores were different in each category, and yet, I still got the EXACT same score as my first attempt. I am glad that I am not the only one to see it as unusual.

Interesting dream. I think it says something about your concerns about getting in and nothing more.

I think it was odd too when I retook the TEAS test that my score was the same as my first attempt. My girlfriend took the test a second time on the same day as me and the same happened to her as well.

Hey everyone! I applied to Sac State for this spring too! I have 72 points, I hope that will be enough to get in. I hope we can all get in. How many points does everyone else have, if you don't mind sharing? Not counting those who already shared.

I applied this spring as well and have 80 points. 88% on the TEAS, and 4.0 in my nursing GPA

So anxious to hear back even though I know it won't be for a while! Just counting the days now..

Hi All. My girlfriend (coffeejunkie) and I have been working towards her CSUS BSN goal for >2.5 years now. She has earned 80 pts for her CSUS BSN application.

I think it's an extremely (and perhaps unachievable) goal if you do not take do some planning or take Junior College extremely serious. That's not to say admission to CSUS's BSN program isn't attainable, but just the opposite. We've had our share of ups and downs with the nursing Pre-Req courses, but it always came down to a few simple rules:

(1) Always complete extra credit assignments

(2) Treat every assignment and test the same, finish everything

(3) Go to most (if not all) professor office hours, EMAIL the professor ASAP if you have any questions

(4) Always aim for 95+% going into the final, in case you do not do so well on the final. It's WAY easier to get 99% on a midterm then 99% on a final.

(5) Record all lectures and despite the massive time required, relisten to every lecture and rewrite notes.

(6) When preparing for a midterm, rewrite notes again.

(7) ALWAYS attempt to form a study group, day 1 if possible; We've met a lot of other motivated nursing students through this strategy. If you can find another that is motivated like you, it's invaluable. Remember that 'slackers' are everywhere in JR college, getting a group formed week 1 is important.

(8) My girlfriend tried to have command of the material prior to joining up with others to study. This really helps your ability to explain the information to others--which helps more than you may think.

(9) Keep a meticulous schedule of what you need and want to accomplish every single day

(10) Plan for midterms AND FINALS starting day 1 of class

(11) Try not to have a job :) . This just takes away your study time and adds unneeded stress.

(12) Notice that having a 4.0 gpa is easier than getting 100% on the TEAS. Also notice the huge point difference between a 3.9 and 4.0. Plan accordingly! Get a 4.0!

(13) We were always surprised at the large number of Pre-Nursing students who didn't know which courses were required--or which counted towards the 'Nursing GPA'. Don't be one of these students, and don't rely on JR college counselors for much. I've personally experienced and witnessed these counselors make mistakes and give students wrong information. Use them as a resource, but cover yourself and fact check what they tell you.

Finally,

Review Assist.org and csus/bsn website every single semester for upcoming changes. Keep a running plan of the courses you intend to take and when. Study & Know the nursing application/admission statistics. I've noticed that the pts for CSUS's BSN program seem to increase by about 2-3 pts every semester (on average). 72pts was the cut off for Fall '14, I anticipate a cutoff of 73-74 pts for Spring '15.

Stay committed. If you're going to apply for CSUS's BSN program, do not gamble your grade on a single test--try your hardest to get an A on every test. You'd be surprised how less stressed you are going to into a final with 95% knowing that you would have to get a 68% on the final to get a B in the class--this helps.

Good luck everyone. It's been a struggle for coffeejunkie, but anyone can achieve this with planning and dedication.

80 points is great! :)

I really wish I had tried harder to get a 4.0, but while I was taking my pre-reqs I didn't realize that I could even apply to Sac State. At the time, their ABSN was closed and the traditional BSN was closed to second bachelors as well. I think that if I had the goal of Sac State and knew how competitive it was, I would have made the 4.0 happen. I know I should have done that regardless, because every nursing school is competitive, but I was also going through some unexpected personal stuff that took away my focus from school a little bit (which I wish I could get some extra points for, haha).

Anyway, long story short, I ended up with 3 B's :(

My GPA and 6 optional points for speaking spanish and having healthcare experience gave me 31 points, and I tried for a really high TEAS score to make up for it. Ended up getting a 96%, so 74 points overall. I really hope that is enough, because Sac State has become my dream school.

I think you definitely have a chance if you have 74 points. I totally understand about how difficult it is. By getting my 4.0 I lost any semblance of a social life, telling myself that it will all be worth it if i get in! 96% on the TEAS is amazing, you can't kick yourself too much for the GPA when you did so well on that! I feel the same way about Sac State, have heard nothing but good things about the program. I hope we both get in! :) Best of luck to you!
