Applying to Frontier Bridge class of 80!

Specialties CNM

Published

I sent in my application yesterday for the class of 80 bridge program. Now I must wait patiently for my phone interview and then a LONG wait to see if I get in! I have only been a nurse for 1 year. I worked in our local hospital as a nurses aid from nov 2004 until Nov 2009. I spent one year as an aid in L & D and then 3 years on medsurg going from an aid to extern to intern. I left the hospital for hours better adjusted so I could go back to school ( no nights holidays or weekends :lol2:). I have been working as a fill in nurse for a local CNM for about 2 years and she gave me a great reference, also my former supervisor of the L & D was a reference. I have wanted to persue a career as a midwife for more than 10 years, but just now have the opportunity.

Anyone else sent in their application for class of 80 bridge?

Anxiously awaiting...

I put it in the mail last thursday from indiana, received the email on tuesday.

The Midwifery and Women's Health Chair just contacted me, and she said they're no longer requiring the phone interviews. She said they will be reviewing the applications in June.

Really, Klone? I mailed my application on Monday, and got an email today that said that I would be contacted by the student services coordinator about doing an applicant couseling session over the phone.

I know, I received the same email when my application was received. Then, several days ago, the Chair of the CNM/WH emailed me and thanked me for applying and said to let her know if I had any questions. So I emailed her back, asking when I should expect someone to contact me to set up the phone interview, and she emailed me back and said they were no longer requiring the phone interviews. This was yesterday evening. So there you go!

I thought we would know long before June :crying2: Not sure why they are still sending out those emails.

Oh and I just looked at the calendar and it says that the deadline is April 19 and "Completed applications will be reviewed and applicants notified of the decision of the admissions committee within two weeks of the Review Completed date."

Still not sure of when that will be, hoping for May...

never mind, just got this email:

starting with the may 2010, class 76, the application process has changed; an interview is no longer required because it will not be a deciding factor in your review.

instead of the interview you are required to complete a short phone informational session to discuss important factors about our program and to answer any questions that you might have.

Ah, that must be what the applicant counseling session is. Good to know the pressure is off to perform. I don't do well on the phone.

I hope that's accurate about making decisions within 2 weeks of the deadline cutoff. I don't think I could survive not knowing until June!

I just want it to be August already so I can start! My husband started his RN-BSN program in January, and I"m so envious of him. I can't believe I'm actually anxious to be taking classes again!

I had my phone counseling session on February 25th and was told I would hear from them by the end of April; that Frontier Bound would be in August and that classes for 80 start middle September. Good luck to us all!

I also received the e-mail about the phone counseling session-- I really hope that we don't have to wait until June!!

I don't think I can wait...Shannon we are both CRAZY...six kids and full time school :lol2: How old are your kids?

mine are 19,9,7,5,3,4 months at least the baby will be a little older by the time we start!! If anyone has had their phone counseling session already come and share-----What is it all about???

Talitha :p

I have my phone interview tomorrow between 12 and 2 I think. I am excited to find out what is to come!

Yes, we are completely crazy with 6 kids and full time school! My kid are 15, 13,12,8,7 and 2! It is always crazy... I have the worlds best husband and he is very helpful makes my life better while I have so much going on!

I will post tomorrow with my phone info.

Shannon-

so how did the phone interview/applicant counseling session go?

I got the email thanking me for applying and asking if I had any questions, and I asked about when I might hear about scheduling my applicant counseling session- I got an email back that said "we are no longer doing the applicant counseling sessions. debra will send an email and offer assistance if needed, but it is no longer required" (this is for the bridge to the CNM program.....)

i had also asked about what percentage they usually accept, and the usual size of the bridge classes. she said they accept 25-30 students in each bridge class, and that they TRY to admit all qualified CNEP applicants, since the world needs more midwives.

oh, and that they review applications as fast as they can, but that I should hear by late June, for sure

hope this info helps someone else as well!

oh, and are the FNP/WHNP/CNM students who want to bridge to msn all in teh same one year bridge program, then in their own individual programs of study? cuz 25 students doesn't sound like a lot for a bridge program if that inlcudes all three eventual programs of study!
