Applying at Different state for my 4th try.

Published

I took my 3rd nclexrn exam last saturday and after doing the pvt trick, I got the cc page. :( . Im reviewing again, but right now im debating if I should take my 4th nclex on my state (michigan) or go to different state.I heard some people said that some state are easier, i dont know if thats true. Any comments or advice would be appreciated. Thankys

There is no difference in difficulty of the exam in different states. The computer doesn't know where you are or what state you have applied to; the exam is the same, regardless.

thanks elkpark. i just heard it from someone that some state have better percentage for passing nclex..

NCLEX is a national exam. The question base is the same no matter whether you take it in Guam, California, UK, NY or Utah. The computerized adaptive testing is the same methodology used for both NCLEX-RN & PN (just the knowledge base is different for the exams).

The higher pass rates in a state could be due to higher English proficiency, larger population (100 people failing out of 1000 candidates is a lower pass rate than 100 people failing out of 10,000 candidates), how many candidates were trained in the US vs. internationally educated (historically IEN's have a first time pass rate of less than 40% for the first try and it goes down significantly lower with subsequent attempts.) and a variety of other possible variables.

It is a common misconception that the NCELX is "easier to pass" in various locations.

Wait until you get your candidate report to see where your weaker areas are then you can decide on a plan of action to take. Whether you need a nursing refresher class (a refresher of your nursing education, sometimes mandated by the board of nursing before another attempt is permitted), a review of content or assistance with test taking strategies/decoding of questions, take it one day at a time.

If you are US educated you can contact your nursing program for advice and assistance as they have a vested interest in you passing the NCLEX.

good luck as you work towards your goal of earning a license as an RN.

thank you for the reply..this clears up a lot of my question..When I heard about this rumor, I considered applying at different state like ohio or chicago. It would be another 500-700 dollars but if thats the only way for me to get licensed, why not...

I actually just called michigan board of nursing and they said I have to send them some sort of "certificate of completion" from the nursing review that I will be taking..Im considering Ncsbn 3 week review but I dont know if they provide such certificate.I tried calling them too but Im unable to reach them..

Thank you again

Ask the BoN for a list of qualifying classes. Online reviews usually don't meet the requirement unless they are facilitated by an instructor or proctor. Usually when the BoN wants a certificate they want a certificate from a refresher class not a self- directed online review.

I'd email the BoN so you have the answer in writing with the name of the rep.

Thanks for the reply..

Michigan BOn said that any review course is ok, as long as there is a "certificate of completion".

I also called the customer support for the ncsbn nclex review and they said that they provide the certification of completion once i finish the 8 set of exams including the pretest with a score of atleast 75% on each of them.

Im thinking if I should take the nclexrn again or try the nclexpn. Im already eligible to take the nclexpn anyways..Im starting to review right now and I still dont know if I should start the nclexrn ncsbn review or the examcram PN...i need help guys. ..again any input on this would be appreciated...

thank you
