2023 Applications to UBC and UVic NP program

Updated:   Published

Hi all,

I've applied to both programs to start in September 2023, and wanting to commiserate with anyone else who is anxiously waiting to hear. Looking back at previous years I'm feeling a bit discouraged since the admissions average seemed to be higher than I had been told by colleagues. Anyhow, let me know if you also applied and when you hear back from schools! Wishing you all the best of luck.

I think so? I mean, I work in Kamloops urgent care clinic currently, and the program - albeit new - still needs to go through the same approval process with BCCNM. They did say it will be a learning curve for all, and honestly, I'm totally comfortable flying by the seat of my pants through the process.
I guess for me, the cost in fuel/ferry to drive down to Victoria for the In-house stuff will add up. Secondly, I am on a farm with lots of big and small critters, so the more I can avoid being gone for periods, the better. I know this isn't avoidable for practicums,  but the more I can avoid being away, the better.

I will find out next week, and if I'm lucky and get an offer from TRU, I'll  take a few days to weigh it all out.

Ah okay, makes sense! Well, they did say they would prioritize local applicants and your experience is so well rounded! I'm sure you'll get the offer ?

On another note, I saw your below message about applying to places only offered by distance - were you able to confirm with Alberta and UNBC that they were? Previously when I'd reviewed their website it seemed like it was primarily on campus so I didn't bother applying. Now I'm kicking myself for that, especially since I still haven't heard anything from UVIC (which doesn't seem promising...).

Sorry if this is a silly question but where is everyone getting the emails? I haven't received any news from unbc or uvic. Nothing on my personal email of acceptance or rejection. Please let me know I don't want to miss a window

For UNBC it's through the UNBC email address. They're not sending out to private emails unless you set it up to forward. My UVic response went to my personal email. You could always email admissions as well.

Hey everyone,

Does anyone know how long the waitlist is at UVIC ?

Thanks I might give it a couple more days then email. The suspense is killing me

I called UNBC admissions last week and they said they've only sent out 8 full time offers so far, and all the rest will be going by email by the end of the month, so I'm assuming by this week everyone awaiting on their decisions will know by the end of this week

I did an info session with U of A and if was a delivery method like UVIC, you go for. Week or two each semester then distance for the rest.
UNBC I was told was similar but I can't remember if I confirmed it or not. I would think so, I had heard the only in-house was UBC . I haven't heard anything from UNBC though regarding acceptance or rejection.

Ah okay! Good to know. This was my first year applying and I took the information on each school's website really at face value. I wish I'd questioned those that were a bit more ambiguous about their delivery methods. C'est la vie.

Is TRU distance or on campus learning?

Mostly distance. Students will have to go on campus for the lab components, but they said they will consolidate that as much as possible to minimize the need to come on site. I don't know if we were told an estimate, I think it was maybe at the end of most semesters?

Congrats to everyone who has heard back! Sounds like a really qualified bunch.

Wondering if anyone has been put on a waitlist for UBC? I am on the UVic waitlist, but haven't heard anything from UBC since my interview. Trying to stay hopeful until I get a confirmed rejection letter!

Thanks ?

I was just emailed yesterday that I'm on the UBC waitlist! Anyone else?

Hi,

Any update from UNBC? Has anyone heard anything from them today ?

I just received an email from TRU 15 mins ago! I've been accepted! Anyone know if they are approved by the BCCNM yet?
