2023 Applications to UBC and UVic NP program

Updated:   Published

Hi all,

I've applied to both programs to start in September 2023, and wanting to commiserate with anyone else who is anxiously waiting to hear. Looking back at previous years I'm feeling a bit discouraged since the admissions average seemed to be higher than I had been told by colleagues. Anyhow, let me know if you also applied and when you hear back from schools! Wishing you all the best of luck.

Congrats to everyone! Hopefully recommended means we really are in.

For those that may be going to UVic, have you already taken a stats course? If you have which one did you take? And if not, which one are you planning on taking? It's been a long time since since I've done that kind of course ?

Specializes in Public health/primary care.

I still have to take one. The only distance one I know is the athabasca soci 301. Does anyone know of any others ?

Specializes in Community health/palliative care.

I asked UVic back in October or November about the acceptable courses, and these were listed. I'm currently enrolled in the SOCI 301 and so far it's really straightforward. The other ones I think are more work and not as relevant.

kind of crappy to drop over 1K on a course that is really repetitive to my nursing degree, but technically my courses weren't labelled as stats so they're not included.

Specializes in Emergency, ICU, Urgent Care.

I did the TRU 1201 this year, and I was told it would be honoured for this application only. I stated I was signing up for it and asked if there was anything else I should take, part way through the year last year and they did not correct me that they had changed the STAT requirement.

I will likely take the other course if I get accepted, just to make sure I am prepared. Every other school was good with the TRU STAT 1201.

Specializes in Specialty in cardiology, heart failure care.

It was a surprising change when the TRU course was no longer acceptable!
The good news is I've heard the SOCI 301 course is easier in that it focuses more on the reason for  the calculations rather than doing the actual math.
I thought it was a good course with very manageable material.

Congratulations to everyone whose portal said "recommend by department"!
I'm going to be away for a couple of weeks but thinking of everyone waiting to hear some good news!

Specializes in Emergency, ICU, Urgent Care.

Oh, that is actually good to hear! I was already halfway done the TRU stat class, so If I get into UVIC, I will take that one, then at least they are back-to-back.

Thanks everyone for the comments on the stats courses!

Hi everyone, just found this thread! Congrats to everyone who has gotten in!! I'm a bit worried as I only applied to uvic. My application still says under review by department.
Does this mean they've already sent out offers to the people who have been accepted? And those with under review - does this mean we wait to see if people decline offers and then maybe get offered?

Thanks for any input!

Got an email from ubc today, accepted into the program.

hi everyone, was wondering if anyone has been offered a part time or being put on waitlist for unbc!
