  1. 2 semesters into UVic. Unfortunately they've been kind of all over the map with when synchronous classes happen. Both our semesters have had: 1) NP courses on Thursday mornings from 9-12. 2) MN core courses in evenings, variable days. Term 1 it was Thursday evenings from 5-8. They're still trying to improve letting us know sooner when synchronous stuff is happening but it's a work in progress. You will likely have on campus orientation the last weekend in August. Then no other onsite visits until May/June. Congrats everyone, welcome to UVic :)
  2. Hi all, I wanted to add some positives for the UVic program. Most of the profs have been great. Each semester there is always one who isn't but the rest are fantastic. UVic has incredible scholarships, so it was actually incredibly affordable. They had a big donor this past year which gave many students $5000 towards school, so essentially my first year of tuition was covered. All programs have a lot of masters courses, which aren't super helpful, but do set you up relatively well if you want to ever do research. They definitely take more time than I would like but they are interesting and important (making you an NP not just a crappy medical provider ☺️). placements can be anywhere in BC, not just on the island! Anyhow, I hope this is helpful. I chose UVic over UBC because I couldn't justify the commuting time but I honestly think both options would be good! congrats to everyone who got offers! And everyone who didn't or is waitlisted, keep trying ☺️ there will be lots more seats in the coming years!
  3. Final PSA if you want to join a facebook group to share info, here it is! For any school in BC https://www.facebook.com/groups/171905042336217/
  4. I'm sorry Elephant1234- that really sucks. I can't really shed much light on how they judge applications, though I have heard from previous students that the personal statement is critical and the references really should be glowing and from people who they see as important (professors, supervisors, managers). I thought GPA was a really important factor but I'm not so sure. I also have heard they tend to prefer people coming from more of a "generalist" background, like primary care, ER, community nursing and not so much specialists. Sorry I can't shed more light. My strengths were 1) research experience 2) leadership experience 3) I've done some extra coursework that's relevant to the NP Program (UNBC rural nursing course on advanced assessment). Hope this helps for next year! Try to not be too hard on yourself.
  5. I wanted to confirm just because UBC is just over 10k for the whole program which is incredible! I don't think it will be substantially more but I wanted to make sure before I decline my ubc offer!
  6. https://www.facebook.com/groups/171905042336217/ I'm not sure why! I tried it on my end and it's working?
  7. Not sure why! Here's the link :) https://www.facebook.com/groups/171905042336217/
  8. If anyone wants to join, please check out on facebook, BC MN-NP students 2023-2025, and request to join!
  9. Well it's been a crazy week. Anyone else making a decision about which program this week? I'm waiting to confirm UVic's tuition. I believe it's around 6K per year but I'm not sure. Also is anyone interested in starting an online group for the various cohorts?
  10. I don't believe the number of applicants is publicly available anywhere. As for number of seats: UBC- 30 Uvic- 25 (I think, 5 are post-degree seats) TRU- 15 UNBC- I'm not sure, is it 15 or 20?
  11. Congratulations Mel68RN! It sounds like this is the week to hear back ☺️
  12. Literally just now, at 11:45! Don't worry they're doing it seemingly individually so you should hear soon!
  13. I just got an email from UBC with an acceptance offer! They are giving people until April 4th to decide, so if you are waitlisted, you should know more by then!
  14. I asked UVic back in October or November about the acceptable courses, and these were listed. I'm currently enrolled in the SOCI 301 and so far it's really straightforward. The other ones I think are more work and not as relevant. kind of crappy to drop over 1K on a course that is really repetitive to my nursing degree, but technically my courses weren't labelled as stats so they're not included.
