Applicants to Portland/Salem Area Nursing Schools 2014

Published

I know that it's early, but I really wanted to get a jump on this. I have read the past two years' threads from start to finish and have seen the amazing support given by everyone involved. Considering how competitive it is for nursing school admission, it is extremely informative and heart-warming. I will be applying to all the schools in the Portland/Salem area to which I will qualify. This next year is going to be rough, but ever since I started on this journey I have loved every moment.

A little about me:

  • I am 33, married, no kids.
  • I live in Salem and have taken the bulk of my prerequisites at Chemeketa.
  • I have been working as a Dental Assistant for 2 years and feel that it is supremely unfair that many of the OCNE schools do not count dental assisting towards their "direct patient care" discretionary points. (I went to school for a year to become a dental assistant. I have dealt with medical emergencies, bodily fluids and have had my fingers in mouths on a daily basis! I'm grumbling, I know.)
  • I have a 4.0 GPA (so far) for all of the OCNE prerequisites (My single B in one of three Chemistry classes will haunt me when I apply to Linfield)
  • I am still one term away from finishing my prerequisites for the majority of the schools to which I plan on applying
  • I don't really think that I will be lucky enough to be accepted to any of the Portland-area community colleges due to my lack of necessary discretionary points (if any of you CURRENT students have found otherwise, I would be very interested to find out what you know!)
  • I will be applying anyway, because I know that I should at least make it onto a waiting list or two and as I have seen in previous threads - they do go through their waiting lists!
  • I sincerely hope that all my hard work will pay off and that I will be accepted SOMEWHERE

Again, I know this is early, but I look forward to seeing the responses from everyone!

When are you going?

Cool. Mine's @ 4/16/2014 @ 8:30am. I asked them about preferred attire, but they didn't respond. Good luck.

Has anyone heard anything from CCC, yet?

My name is Ali, I feel like I have been working towards nursing school for several years. I applied to MHCC, PCC, CCC, LaneCC, UmpquaCC and OHSU. I just received notification that I didnt get to the interview at Lane yesterday and I feel very discouraged. I did get an interview at MHCC and the essay at PCC but I feel like there is so much competition there is no way Ill get in. I got to the HESI exam at umpqua but only got a B and dont really know where that leaves me. Im waiting to hear from CCC. I dont really know how to prepare for the essay and the interview so I feel like all Im doing is worrying. I just want to get into nursing school and become an amazing nurse but this process feels like its going to leave me completely disappointed and crushed.

Hang in there Ali. I consider this process to be part of my "strengthening." Rejection sucks, but it only makes me want it that much more. The competition is really tough, so try not to look at is as a failure on your part. We all know how much work went into getting to this point- and we know that is an accomplishment in and of itself.

But, I get it. I really do. Some days I feel really positive and motivated and other days I feel like I am tackling the impossible- and must be completely nuts.

We'll get there.

I am joining the thread. I am an applicant to OHSU Monmouth and Lane Community College for 2014, and have been notified that I will be interviewing for OHSU Monmouth this Saturday, April 5th (eek!), and for Lane April 21st. I am hoping to connect with others that are also interviewing or in the same boat.

I emailed CCC. They explained that we would receive confirmation points soon. They are still being evaluated. ?

Does anyone know what dates CCC will be offering interviews? I wonder if it will be the same week as Mt. Hood's or as soon as PCC's week. I'm trying to communicate with my work as much as possible and have had to switch shifts around for both Mt. Hood and PCC interviews. I hope I'm lucky that CCC just falls on a day when I'm already off.

I just got an email from CCC today with the points verification. They said that all points will be final April 11th and then we will be notified by email about interviews which will be held mid to late April.

Sweet! I didn't get anything from them yet. Hopefully tomorrow.
