Applicants to Portland area schools 2013

Published

Hello everyone! I was an avid reader of last years articles on applying to schools here, and it really helped me get an idea of how many points I would need. I thought I'd return the favor. So far I've only applied at PCC with 54.5 points (I think). For some reason, I'm not getting any discretionary points at Chemeketa and very few at Mt. Hood, so I might just forgo them this year. Is it just me or are schools going to a model where you can only really have a chance if you take the prereqs there? Anyways, good luck everyone!!!!

Thanks for keeping us posted poppyanddelia! Best wishes to you at PCC!

And we get a little closer:)

I have declined my seat at PCC. I decided to accept a spot at CCC. Good luck to all of those still waiting to hear back on their waitlist status.

Thanks for the update! Best wishes for you in nursing school!

Just finishing my first year at CCC...looking forward to meeting everyone coming into the program!

Can you give us an idea what to expect? Maybe some information on how much time you're on campus, study time, clinicals, etc. I am excited to hear what my first year will be like. Thanks so much!

Specializes in ICU, CVICU.

The OHSU transition is non-competitive, the bridge program is mostly online as well. Also, as for clinicals, all OCNE programs have the same required clinicals/hours as OHSU; one does not have more than others. The biggest thing when comparing schools is reputation, just ask a nurse you already know working in a hospital who the best students are to get an idea.

The first term you are on campus the most, but only half days about 3-4 days/ week. Consider this term your adjustment to a whole new learning style! You have plenty to keep you busy so staying up on assignments, projects and reading ahead of time are important. Clinicals come in at winter term, along with a heavier course load. It's a wonderful, stressful, rewarding, hectic mess of a time! And I love it. CCC is a great school with instructors who really care and are passionate about nursing!

My understanding is that they wait until the deadline for people to accept (June 14), and when they've had most of the people accept or decline, they will send out a huge batch of new offers for people on the waitlist.

According to the admissions office they call as people decline. I checked.

Yes, I did, too... So they only start calling after the June 14th deadline, unless they have received all of the acceptance/declines back early. Keep hoping!

Well, I already sent my decline letter in to PCC. I hope you all get to hear something soon.

Anyone know if Clackamas has started pulling from their wait list yet? I know the acceptance deadline was 5/24....
