Hello everyone! I was an avid reader of last years articles on applying to schools here, and it really helped me get an idea of how many points I would need. I thought I'd return the favor. So far I've only applied at PCC with 54.5 points (I think). For some reason, I'm not getting any discretionary points at Chemeketa and very few at Mt. Hood, so I might just forgo them this year. Is it just me or are schools going to a model where you can only really have a chance if you take the prereqs there? Anyways, good luck everyone!!!!
I remember studying in the commons and a teacher burst out of a nursing lecture, and yelled "If your just going to talk to each other and not listen you can teach yourselves!". There is also a good thread by someone who was in it last year, I can't remember what it's called, but they said its basically m-f, 8-5, and she did 20 hours of studying on the weekends. They lost 15 people who just left, and like another 20 who didn't get C or better on their first major test. It's just way harder than people think it's going to be, and PCC has a very high standard. I think that's why PCC has been tweaking their admission standards lately.
YOu guys are making me scared to start nursing school there/...... oye!!! But most people who get accepted to nursing school in my book go to nursing school as an easy career choice (two years and great pay). My husband has a lot of people in his program who are in it for the money and will be TERRIBLE NURSES!!!!!!!! I think the weeding out process is just part of the GAME!!! Most people can get good grades in pre reques cuz thats all they are taking.....My husbands class once they hit injections had people go "UMM NOPE CANT DO THIS!" it honestly takes a strong willed, smart, dedicated person to get through nursing school in general!
My understanding is that they wait until the deadline for people to accept (June 14), and when they've had most of the people accept or decline, they will send out a huge batch of new offers for people on the waitlist.
Does anyone know if that is also the way Clackamas does it? Their deadline is this Friday, May 24th, so if so, we could be hearing next week if we have moved off the alternates list.

Ah, okay. Interesting. This is actually what I thought initially, but then it seemed logical that they would notify students as soon as possible. At any rate, thanks for the clarification.
For all of you on the wait list for CCC, I've just turned in my form that declined my seat. I've decided to accept the invitation to PCC as it is closer to home/better for my family/etc. It was an agonizing decision to say the least! I've heard such great things about CCC. That being said, I am excited to start my journey at PCC!

I have heard they only have a 50% retention rate, that only half the class makes it to the second year.
