Applicants to Portland area schools 2013

U.S.A. Oregon

Published

Hello everyone! I was an avid reader of last years articles on applying to schools here, and it really helped me get an idea of how many points I would need. I thought I'd return the favor. So far I've only applied at PCC with 54.5 points (I think). For some reason, I'm not getting any discretionary points at Chemeketa and very few at Mt. Hood, so I might just forgo them this year. Is it just me or are schools going to a model where you can only really have a chance if you take the prereqs there? Anyways, good luck everyone!!!!

I'm also an alternate for CCC. Just got the email today (didn't receive the original, so it had to be resent). I was surprised that it didn't mention about a response needed to secure my position on the wait-list? Please correct me if I'm wrong about that (you never know).

To all who are lucky enough to be accepted~ congrats! And thank you for keeping us posted on your final decisions. As always, it gives us a little bit more hope if we know that we are a step closer! :)

Hey everyone! I have decided to decline my spot at PCC in favor of CCC. So, one more spot is opening up at PCC. Good luck everyone.

Just curious, what is your number on the wait list? I am 11 and really hope to get in this year! This is my third year applying and I am so ready!

PCC wait list :( I am wondering if I should just wait or be pro active? Is there someone I can see, or a contact I can e mail? Thanks

WooHoo, I am one more step closer to making it it:) What made you choose CCC over PCC?

I have also decline my spot at PCC for CCC. Another space free!

Hello! Been stalking a buncha forums since last year and now I'm one of the people waiting for decisions! It's my first year applying and am also waitlisted at PCC, CCC, and OHSU. Accepted at Umpqua CC.

Cngrats to to those who already got accepted to at least one program! :) I was wondering if anyone knows anything about the UCC nursing program down in roseburg. It was a last minute decision applying there just to broaden my chances for OCNE schools, and now I'm surprised that I got accepted.

Congrats again to those who are finally admitted! and telling us on here about declining spots would really help ease our anxiety haha so I appreciate you guys letting us know!

I chose CCC for several reasons. For me the school is closer, less expensive, smaller class sizes and newer facilities. I was also interested in the clinical opportunities at each school so I emailed each school. PCC sent me a very short email with very few specifics, it seemed like they didn't care very much if I attended or not, that didn't seem like a very good quality in a nursing school. On the other hand, CCC sent me a breakdown of the focus of each of the six semesters. They included the possible options for clinical sites and their reasoning behind the placements. The CCC lady told me that they would love it if I chose their school and she hopes to see me at the orientation. For me that email made my decision very easy.

If anyone would like, I can forward the email from CCC if you would like more information about their clinicals.

prfoodie and CareerinHealthCare,

Thanks for the update on your school of choice. It's nice to move down the line on the waitlist! :D

Its nice to know that spots are becoming available at PCC for those that are wait listed.... Christy24,. what is your number on a wait list?

I see a lot of people saying "if your going to go to OHSU your degree will be the same no matter what". I just want everyone to think about there schools carefully because not everyone gets accept into the OHSU bridge program, you still have to apply and be selected so you want to make yourself the best candidate. All the schools are OCNE so course wise they will be the same but how much you are actually learning, the connections you make, and the quality if the clinical sites are all important. Also you should figure out what each schools retention rate is (how many people drop out) and how many of there students have passed the NCLEX on the first shot the last few years because you have to be licensed before starting the bridge program. I would personally go with whatever program has smaller classes sizes and more advanced technology, I'm not going to either PCC or Clackamas because I've chosen another school but these are questions I would ask of any school and wanted to share them :)

I believe Chemeketa will be notifying students too so for anyone who is waiting to hear there, or on wait lists other places good luck!

I have also decline my spot at PCC for CCC. Another space free!

You should join the discussion thread Jason31 started for the people who are accepting their spots at CCC, here.

Cheers!

valeriatackitt,

I started at the far end of the waitlist for PCC this year (86), but was told to not count it out due to the mistake they made when sending out the original emails. I don't know where I stand now, but I do know people who have accepted positions at other schools because of that goof. Clackamas is my best chance however (and I took all my prereqs there)... just wish I knew my number on the list. Very anxious! :D

And for those waiting for Clackamas, I was told that not too long back even #51 on the waitlist was accepted (and it happened to be at the time that the first term started- within a day or two).
