Applicants to Portland area schools 2011

U.S.A. Oregon

How's everyone doing with their Apps?

I applied to MHCC, CCC, PCC and Linfield.

It's my first year applying and I'm a nervous wreck!!!

How long does it usually take to hear whether or not you got an interview?

I was glad to see CCC changed their deadline to Feb 15th like the other OCNE schools-I think it'll make the waiting more bearable!

Anyone else want to share points to see how tight the competition is this year?

Other than Mt. Hood, I don't get too many discretionary points. :(

Heres what I *think* I have (figuring them myself):

MHCC-63 points

CCC-50 or 51 points depending on how they round up your gpa

PCC-54 points

Good luck everyone!!!

Let the nail biting, stalking the mailbox begin! :lol2:

There are many alternates that won't be accepting, though, so that's why they end up moving through the list quickly.

I've accepted my spot at Clackamas. Just mailed my letter to PCC that I won't be attending there. And I declined my alternate spot (#14) at Mt. Hood. Best wishes to everyone still waiting!

Congrats, kat! We'll be classmates! :)

I have to say that I was relieved not to worry about this issue anymore once I decided to go with CCC. I hadn't realized that the parking/commute was stressing me out until I already made the decision to go to CCC because it was cheaper. It's going to be hard enough for me to get to clinicals by 7AM, without having to worry about parking.

Didn't you get a call from an OHSU student last night? They called me because I'm still on the list, even though I've declined, and a current student might be able to give you some advice on this.

I did get a call last Tuesday and she was kind enough to answer all my questions. She pretty much admitted too that all students do take the bus. In all fairness, when I went to OHSU yesterday they had a fair amount of bus transportation options available. Like you, I just don't see myself riding the bus and max for over an hour before I get to school. I personally think it will considerably add to my stress level when school starts. Also, there clinical simulation labs are not in the same campus, it will be in ADP building downtown.

I think I am pretty set in going to CCC. I will be declining PCC and OHSU (ouch!). I am so sad to let OHSU go but with my situation right now, I feel comfortable going to a school without being in so much debt plus I have more studying time & less stress because I don't have any commute issues to consider then [:

We'll be classmates, too! :) The ADP building is just 10 minutes on the 8 from OHSU, fyi. Not too bad. :)

I got to talk to an OHSU student yesterday who really clarified the parking issue. I don't know, it just isn't daunting to me, despite having two school-aged kids and being pretty busy. There are free shuttles that run from all of the campuses, including downtown, the tram is free, and there are many, many bus options to get to school. And a bus pass is 300 dollars for the school year, which is not bad, considering the price of gas. For the first term, only 1 day is spent of the Hill, since the skill lab is at the center for health and healing. I'll miss the convenience of driving, but it's worth it to me to attend OHSU! I'm glad you feel good and settled on CCC!

And yellow, I believe they said they take 50 alternates. And I declined my seat! I think once they letters are due, which is June 15th, the list will really open up... Good luck!

Thank you so much jimithing for all your helpful commute tips. I went to the Valley Church Park & Ride yesterday and I thought it was like a hidden treasure tucked in the woods:), I liked it! It is actually very doable for me to hop on that express bus given with the morning classes at OHSU. Also, at the back of the Son building is the 8 bus stop for later classes. OHSU really does provide a lot of options! I would not have known otherwise without knowing your suggestions.

Having said that, yes I may see you at CCC! I have not declined OHSU just yet (so indecisive:). Good luck everyone :]

You bet!! I feel like I've been through all the options possible to get there myself! I just didn't want anyone to rule out OHSU without giving the bus a shot and realizing it's really not so bad. Good luck in your decision, whatever it may be!

If anyone has questions about the CCC program or transferring to OHSU for the BSN, I'd be happy to answer them if I can. I'm using public transportation to get to the hill from SE Portland. The first piece of advice I have for those who would be buying the yearly bus pass from OHSU is to buy it on Oct 1. The pass is pro-rated and it will cost less if you just wait a few days after school starts in late September to buy it. Another piece of advice I would give is to get copy of the book list and start buying them. Unless you need an online component, the Med-Surg book (among others) is much less expensive online. The scrubs are forest green. You might be able to buy patches and/or scrubs from outgoing seniors -- check craigslist this summer. Save some $$. Welcome to nursing school!! Lauren

Thanks for this! Did you transfer last fall? I heard a lot of it is online - I will be transferring from MHCC not CCC but I heard that for the community college students who transfer for their BSN at OHSU it's mostly online. I really can't seem to get much more information than that so if you want to share it would help! Thanks again

ca336,

I am doing the on campus path. That means transferring to OHSU for spring quarter of the second year and then three additional quarters as a senior. I will not get my license this June like my former classmates. I chose this for multiple reasons. I'm interested in public health which I'm told is really hard to get into even with the bachelor's for new grads.

With the online version, you finish at the CC and then are elegible to take the NCLEX. You can do the online version in 1-3 years (I think that they give you up to 5 years-but don't quote me on that).
