How's everyone doing with their Apps?
I applied to MHCC, CCC, PCC and Linfield.
It's my first year applying and I'm a nervous wreck!!!
How long does it usually take to hear whether or not you got an interview?
I was glad to see CCC changed their deadline to Feb 15th like the other OCNE schools-I think it'll make the waiting more bearable!
Anyone else want to share points to see how tight the competition is this year?
Other than Mt. Hood, I don't get too many discretionary points.
Heres what I *think* I have (figuring them myself):
MHCC-63 points
CCC-50 or 51 points depending on how they round up your gpa
PCC-54 points
Good luck everyone!!!
Let the nail biting, stalking the mailbox begin!
I've cried some tears this morning, but I've officially declined OHSU now.I will mail an acceptance letter to Clackamas Community College today, and decline acceptance to PCC and MHCC.
It's time now to focus on the path to nursing via CCC and look forward, not back.
I will always be proud of myself for being one of the few accepted to OHSU. I'll never forget how it felt the day I received that acceptance letter. It was the best feeling. It's a sad day for me to decline that opportunity, but I know deep down that I made the wisest decision for me and my family's financial future, since my need for scholarship was so great, and I had no way of knowing if those would come through until long after I would have had to decline other programs, which are significantly cheaper.
Kiwiapple, I was trying to be optimistic about things like parking or the idea of busing up the hill daily. In so many ways, CCC will be less stressful for me. Getting accepted to OHSU was such a great feeling that I hope I can somehow feel as happy with CCC. I think I'll feel a lot more excited once I attend orientation on the 10th and am registered for classes.
I keep telling myself that I'm still co-admitted to OHSU! I will be transferring there in the spring of my 2nd year at CCC to complete my third year. So, it's like what I did when I got my B.A.--first two years at MHCC to save money, then finished last two years @ PSU. This is the same thing--first two years at CCC to finish with an OHSU BS degree. Pretty awesome when you think about it that I get to have that financial opportunity with the same results . . .
For those of you still deciding, talk to as many people as you can who can weigh in w/ objective & rational advice. Do what you need to do to feel good about the decision you ultimately make . . . and be happy you have choices between programs! I would be very stressed out right now if OHSU was my only option.
Good luck everyone! --k1977
You will survive this disappointment like you have survived others. You rationalized your decision, and for that you shouldn't feel bad.
Hope I'm not butting in but curious why some of you have ruled out MHCC? Is it the strike issues or something else? I have several friends who go or went there and have great things to say, and just wondering if any of you have heard to the contrary. I too am trying to weigh my options. Thanks

From what I've heard, it hasn't been so much that MHCC isn't good but that they were more impressed with CCC than MHCC and PCC. I didn't interview at MHCC or PCC though, so I don't know much about the other programs, other than that I hate PCC's Sylvania campus...

I'm still 98% sure I will end up at OHSU but before I had that option I was really hoping that CCC would come through it did and it is still something I'm considering- but more to your question, I think MHCC has a fine program and I don't think I have ever heard anything but positive things re MHCC in fact most of it has been very positive. As was just mentioned I prioritized CCC higher than MHCC simply because I had such a good experience there during my CNA, love the staff I have interacted with, it's closer to my home, and has unbelievable facilities. So nothing really negative about MHCC (although I hated there interview process and can't believe they offered me a spot) Any way:p, just a lot of positives for CCC and why it's still in my decision making rubric.

I too am not a fan of Sylvania! As of now it's looking like I have my choice between PCC and MHCC, leaning toward MHCC, and still haven't heard from CCC although I highly, highly suspect I will be at the bottom of their alternate list as I went in to the interview as an alternate (almost no discretionary points from those guys) and didn't interview particularly well either. That should put me somewhere near the bottom. I'm not about to decline a sure shot at the other two programs in hopes of making my way up a long list at CCC, nor am I about to hog my spots for weeks on end while I wait and see what happens (nothing wrong with waiting, but I personally would rather let each school know my decision as soon as I can! Lots of hopeful alternates patiently waiting for news and I'd like to help move that process along).
Having said all that, if I hear what I expect to from CCC, it's down to PCC and MHCC for me and while I'm leaning toward MHCC, I'd love to hear as much testimony as possible before solidifying my decision. I never expected to be in this position but suddenly I'm realizing this is going to be a very intense two years of my life and I'd like to make the best choice possible! Congrats to all of you who have gotten in, never thought you'd get here huh?! Me neither

No doubt, right? I'm so eager to get started but at the same time I know I need to make the most of my summer and have lots of lazy days...
I definitely didn't think I'd make it in my first year of applying...but I'm not complaining.

Interesting, thanks for that. CCC's interview process was the most brutal for me, the staff seemed nice enough but during the interview itself it seemed very intimidating! Lots of blank stares while each person was speaking, constantly wondering what was going through the interviewers' heads! I also thought the typed portion flew by and I didn't get a chance to proofread. MHCC on the other hand, while I didn't like scratching my answers out by hand on paper, I liked the variety of questions and felt we were given plenty of time to think out our answers. I also loved the continual interaction with the interviewers, very down to earth and calming in my opinion. I absolutely loved that process and all the information we were given, and it's a huge part of what tilted me toward their program - before that I couldn't have imagined turning down my beloved PCC for anything!
I have heard that many people disliked MHCC's interview however, so I guess it's funny that I liked it. Guess it's good we each have our preferences so we're not all trying to squeeze into the same school! :) Thanks again for all your responses, it's good to hear everyone's decision processes.

You obviously worked hard and earned it if you made it in! The process has only become more competitive by the years so you should be proud :) I too am hoping for a summer of working at my new job and no homework, however it looks like I will have to take an 8-week Microbiology! Thought I could put it off but suddenly everyone and their brother is saying to get it done before starting the program. oooops

1977, I'm glad you made the right decision for you, too. Also I'm pumped to have some classmates who got into OHSU! Study buddies? *wink wink, nudge nudge*
