Applicants to Portland area Nursing Programs for 2015

U.S.A. Oregon

Published

Hi everyone! I am so excited that application season for 2015 is finally here. I am new to this board, but read several threads last year and learned a lot in preparation for my own applications. It would be great to hear from others who are in the same boat this year. :)

I have a BA in History, but have completed most of my pre-req's at PCC. My cumulative GPA is only 3.46, but my pre-req's will be a 4.0 (provided this Fall term continues to go well...) My top choice is UP, partly because I work for Providence and would love to continue to work for them as a nurse one day. I would also LOVE to go to OHSU of course! I am also applying to Linfield, PCC and possibly CCC. I am curious to hear which programs people are applying for. Such an exciting time to be moving towards our career goals!

That's great! The admissions coordinator told me they will know who has been selected by the end of February, but the letters are mailed the first week of March. So we should definitely know within the next two weeks. I am counting down the days rather anxiously!

I did recieve an email confirming they received everything! From responses last year it looks like we could hear from UP in the next two weeks.

It'll just be nice to hear back from one school so soon! Everywhere else I applied notifications are April/May

That being said, my cumulative GPA is only 3.68 and preqs 3.91-4.0 depending on the program. I think UP focuses on the cum. GPA so I'm not overly optimistic about getting accepted. We shall see!

Yes, that is my main concern as well. I know UP looks at the cumulative, but they also state that they consider the student more holistically than other programs - essays, experience, references, etc. so I am hopeful this will make me a stronger candidate there.

I agree, I'm hoping those factors sway in my favor

I can't believe it - I just got my acceptance letter to university of Portland!!! Wow. I don't know if I have ever experienced excitement quite like this. Anyone else get a letter today?

Congrats!!! That is really exciting!!! I haven't gotten anything yet. There's still time though.

Thanks, it is really exciting. You're right - there is still plenty of time - here's hoping you get good news as well!

I came home last night to find my acceptance letter too!!!! I'm so excited. There wasn't much info in the letter, so I'm curious if financial aid info will follow or if I need to contact them. Congrats!!!!

Hurray! That is great, congrats. I was worried it was a rejection letter by how thin the envelope was. I am guessing they wait on the financial aid bit until they select the Providence Scholars- did you apply for that? I can't remember if you said UP was your top choice...will you be attending for sure or waiting to hear from other schools?

I should have applied for Prov scholars, but I missed the deadline. Did you? UP is my top choice, I definitely want to attend! I'm just a little apprehensive about the cost, 40k/yr is frightening. I still need to take a new/old testament course, as well at literature. Are you done with your prerequisites?

I did apply for it - not sure how much of a chance I have but it sure would be amazing. The cost is a little bit overwhelming for sure, but I feel like it will be worth it to attend this program. I am finishing up statistics now and still need ethics and a literature class.
